Check out the BRP 650 Forum You should contact the forum owner as he sometimes has a Versys swingarm hanging around and has some knowledge from building a '06-'08 racebike. I think you may need to be sure the proper bushings are included and also may need to check the ride height as I believe the Versys swingarm does change that. Good luck with your build, I will be keeping my eye on it. You should start a build thread about it.

"Research" as in "the experts on the internet"?
Or "reserarch" being "Scott Mullin & Peter Kates"?

(Not to throw this thread off on a wild tangent, but I think you've got a big mountain to climb just GETTING to IOM... In my humble opinion, don't worry too much bout fukin with the bike. If it nets you INCREDIBLE gains, go for it. If it nets you MARGINAL gains at best that'll get you a whopping 5 seconds a lap, scrap the idea. Remember your priorities. GETTING THERE is the first step in finishing. Not sourcing ZX front ends and Versys swingarms.)

Re: Wtb: Kawasaki Versys 650 swingarm

Better I deflate him now and make sure he's concentrating on what's important than he deflate himself later when he realizes he won't even make it to the starting line cuz he was too worried about getting parts to fix something that wasn't broken in the first place and ran out of time & money.

I'd do the IOM on a bone stock XR50 if it meant I was able to race. Screw fancy mods. Get EVERYTHING else lined up first... running bike, travel, lodging, finances, etc.... then worry about that other unnecessary crap.

If that's all taken care of, then I'll go F myself

Re: Wtb: Kawasaki Versys 650 swingarm

Sav has been planning this entire thing for a few months now(trust me, I have 70,000 texts about it), and I truly believe he has a good handle on the logistics of getting there, seeing as he has almost a year before the bike would need to depart.

Since he plans to run this bike for a season, pre-IOM, at regional tracks here in the states, I think he should be focusing now, in the off season, on getting it set up. He is using previous IOM competitive 650R bikes as a sort of design template, and has gotten info from Scott Mullin(specifically about the Versys swingarm) and others to guide the build.

He also has a specific dollar budget amount in mind for the bike alone, and has a separate budget for travel and all the other necessities to make it out there. This modification is a line in that budget. Since the swingarm is hard to find used, especially stateside, it makes sense for him to check every avenue, especially since there are some people here with ties to a local motorcycle recycler who might see one come through at some point.

In short...in most cases, with most people, I'd take exactly Pete's line of advice: calm down, worry about the important shit and stop spending time/money on the "unimportant" shit, relatively.

In this case, having a bit of an inside window into what Sav is doing(because of 4067 messages about it per day), I think he's doing the right things, in the right order. If you're going to spend $10,000 getting to a race, you shouldn't cheap out on the machine you'll take. You should build the bike the last guys won on, or as close to it as possible.

Assuming you know how demanding of a race the TT is (you actually probably know more than me about it to be honest) you really need a top machine to make it there. You cannot just cruise the TT, there is qualifying and it has a very high failure presentage even at the light weight class. Iv been in touch with people who have raced the Manx for 3+ years and still cannot make the TT speeds and times that required.
A fine machine is a must in this case and Iv decided to go all out in budget and build exactly what it is necessary.
Trust me my researched left the kawi forums very quick. Iv been talking with Kawi builders from UK (thanks to the guy who shared that article and I found about KMR), Pk, mullin, spears, suspension experts from the island etc.

I know I started this out of nowhere and plenty of people think of hundreds of reasons why i will fail at it but I'm telling you I will give this 100% all I got. It's ok to discount my opinion and/or my knowledge (let's be honest I certainly don't have the skills to build what I started, luckily the people in my corner do) but don't discount my work ethic. If you see the number of emails, texts and calls you will be scared. I have a wall covered with printouts and notes in my office. If I had studied this much when I was 18 I would have gone to Harvard! LOL

But let's be real, your goal was not to "help me out", as much as to tell me I'm stupid and clueless.
