    WTB: Mountain Bike

I'm looking for info on mountain bikes and if anyone has one for sale that meets my criteria.

I'm interested in a bike that I can ride with my wife but I'm also doing an adventure race. I would like a good balance between the two. I'm only looking to spend $150 but preferably less. Any advice would be appreciated.

Not really looking to sell anything but I've got a few if you want to borrow one for the race. Unless you get a killer deal I'd probably avoid doing a race on a $150 bike. I used to have a couple spares, but I destroyed a wheel and obsolete stole one, so I'm running low. I'm down to 2.5 functioning MTB's, I think.

What size are you guys looking for? I have a roughly 01 (could be 00) Specialized Stump Jumper. Can't remember the exact size, but it is a big frame, I'm 6-2. I haven't ridden it in 5 or so years, but rode it alot when I did. Switched to road cycling.
If interested, let me know, I'll get the specifics to you.

I have 2 options for you in that price range. Unfortunately, obsolete stole one of them, and I'd need the front wheel off it to sell the other. Not that unfortunate, since I tend to collect bikes more than sell them, but that's what it is. I could sell you a decent FS at a good price that needs a front wheel...

    Re: WTB: Mountain Bike

Dan is right. You won't want to race a $150 bicycle... Unlike track motorcycles, it's damn hard to find a race-worthy pedal bike for super-cheap. I'll put out some feelers though. I'm down to one mountain bike so I can't help you, but I still have a lot of friends in the industry...

Of course, it really isn't about the bike. If you're "engine" is top shelf, the bike matters a lot less... it just makes it a lot easier, and a lot more fun.

I'm not 100% sure what size I need as I've not really looked into m.biking as much as I should. Just looking for something I can ride in the woods behind my house to exercise me and my doggy if he wants to follow.

    I'm 5'9" 175lbs if that helps.

I'd prefer a complete bike, but obviously I'm sure I could source something if need be. pics? email adam@customfighters.com

Parting out a bicycle is almost always WAY more expensive than buying complete. There are deals to be had though. Keep an eye out on craigslist and ebay.

    Same size... 5'9", 175lbs.

What should I be looking for in a bike? I could be convinced to spend a little more as I have been looking around and there isn't much in that price range but this may only be a one time deal and more a bike just to ride with my wife (I'd rather not ride my road bike).

    Re: WTB: Mountain Bike

like Dan said...depends what you want to do with it...puttering around on light trails, a hardtail would be fine...looking to hit some rocks you might want some suspension at least a fork...solid frame and a middle of the road components group will do the job and not break the bank...going high end on components is a waste they all do the same thing might take off a little weight but when a stick tears through your rear durealler and you have to replace it your wallet will thank you...you should go to a bike store and stand over some bikes...a tech will fit you to a size...usually between 1" to 3" between your junk and the top bar for standover is good...then like a motorcycle if you want a more upright position vs a more race position take a look at riser stems/riser bars...there is really too much to get into unless you specify what you want out of it

edit: missed the part about the adventure race...your going to want to get something which suits the terrain of the race well...try and see what other racers are riding

    Re: WTB: Mountain Bike

Mike you could just buy a new rear shock...from what i have read its a solid bike...components can be upgraded as they break...if anyone is that worried about weight you should probably get a high end bike cause the frame is where you will see the only substantial weight savings...either way this is a good deal

Where in Nh are you? It'd be easier to make an offer if I could see it...
