Looking around at prices vs condition, I can see if I want to continue with this project, I'll have to take a trip south to purchase what I want. Lotta banged up rust buckets in this area in the $6k range.... lotta rust free, dent free trucks down south (Texas) in the 3-4K range

Probably a longshot on NASIOC, but ya never know. This is a badass old truck that gets a lot of attention, easy to work on, and very reliable.

73K original miles. Nice copper/white paint scheme, newer chrome bumpers.
Built 350 motor with headers, dual side exhaust, edelbrock intake, Qjet 4bbl, Full HEI ignition, optima battery. 3spd column shift.

I'll be honest, this is no show stopper, but a solid 10 footer(thus the low price). There is some bondo in the tail gate and rust here and there.
Will consider trades with cash on top, but would rather just sell.

Not accepting trades and price is firm now that I have lowered the price to the point where I am losing money.

Thanks for looking out xrocket, that seems like an OK buy, but it's a bit far to go and look at at the moment and it does show all the signs of the typical rot spots by looking at the pics.

I've looked at a couple already that are local, one of them being a great start to a project for sure. The price was a bit high IMHO for the amount of work needed, but the guy seems to be caving in a bit in that area, so we shall see. Even the paint at 40 years old, is presentable, and the engine is new from GM, so that's kind a bonus.

I was figuring about 1,000-1,500 just for shipping from the south, and another grand for a round trip ticket, rental, and hotel to go look at one. Probably a better truck for the same money in the long run

I had my Bel Air shipped from Chicago to Connecticut a few months back and it was $1,100 in an enclosed trailer. If I opted for an open trailer, it would have been $650-$800.

The truck market is hot right now and prices have been silly lately for ratty old stuff, but you just need to keep after it as there are some decent trucks out there at reasonable prices, but they go quickly.

I agree the market for trucks is hot right now, but how many are selling is the key? The one I've been haggling over has been forsale for quite a while. If I can get it for what I want, it'll be a good buy!
While I believe NADA is in place only to hike taxes and revenue for the government, the numbers are there for everyone to see...and these trucks range from low retail around $6,500 to a high retail of $30,000 according to NADA.

Thanks everyone for keeping an eye out for me and posting in this thread, and sending PM's

Tomorrow morning, i'm going to pick up my new to me truck, a 1971 C-10 Cheyenne. As with anything 40 years old, it needs some TLC, but the great thing about this truck is it is still original as far as the body goes. At least I don't have to worrry about fixxing someone elses hacks on that end! It's also in VERY good condition, but it was a southern truck for over 30 years. It also has a new 350 GM Goodwrench replacement engine that was installed 5 years ago and has less than 10k miles on it. The whole truck has 112,000 miles on it and looks to be very well cared for. It had the sport truck option, so it has all the moldings and trim, nice interior and of course the all important factory air conditioning. Everything works, the truck runs awesome and looks presentable as is for it's age.
For this year, I'll probably just do little things and drive it as is. I'd like to find a set of Rally Sport wheels and trim rings for it, and start collecting parts for a full frame off restoration next winter. The great thing about this truck, there is no rust or rot at all on the bed...it's a huge bonus. The cab is also very good, but it does need rocker pannels and there's a rot hole near the heater motor. It also has the typical rust on the door and fender bottoms, but it is minor and wouldn't need a full replacement.
I was very surprised to see the available parts for these trucks, and still OEM replacement parts as well. Also surprising, was the low cost of them. It should be a fun project and I know I'll have a great starting point with this truck.

It's a project for sure and a closer look at home, it will need a few more things than I thought..but on the other hand, a lot of parts that he didn't tell me about, were replaced. Overall, I'm happy and think I got an good buy. It was listed on craigslist and I had been watching it for a couple months, the price was high, but compaired to others that were out there, the condition of this one will pay off in the long run. It's also not a short bed, but I'm OK with that. The long bed will be more usefull anyways, and it still looks nice.

The engine runs very good and is quite powerful, transmission shifts nice and firm and the fluid is nice and red..no burnt smell. For the short ride I took it at home, it goes down the road real nice...much better than I expected for a 41 year old truck. The front end and steering both feel tight, as do the brakes.
The interior shows it's age, but again, for the 41 years old, it's in great shape.
The body needs some TLC, but looks presentable. I could wash it, buff it and wax it and I'm sure there would be a nice shine. The signs of rust are there though, some sections under the body moldings, the front of the hood, bottoms of the front fenders, and rocker pannels. All easy and cheap to fix with a little time.
I plan to get it registered and drive it for a bit before I start major work to it. My goal is to find and stop all the rust first...the bed and cab being top priority.
