I don't recall his forum name here but try to find Marcel Graeber. He is (or was) an AMA racer out of Simi Valley, Cali if my memory suits me well. He has listed parts here before and I'm not sure why I didn't think of it during our conversation. I believe he's also on WERA but some searching should find him easy enough.

You slipping out of second? If you're having that issue, you will want an '03+ tranny, because any first gen one you get might already have that issue. What I did was just bought new second gen 2nd and 6th gears and installed them.

Yeah, I'd prefer 03-05 to avoid a repeat. 2nd resort is to buy the gears...But I may also need to replace the shift forks which aren't cheap to order as a set of 3...

any local machine shops undercut gears? I'm not familiar with the R6 issue, but maybe an option?

Undercutting is an option, or going to an 03-05 transmission which has 5 dogs instead of 3 which seemed to correct the problem in the 2nd gen.

Sooo... for pure curiosity's sake does the YZF600R transmission suffer the same issue?

Edit: Damn, just found confirmation it does, no word on if you can use the 6 dog R6 gear as a replacement...

Not sure if those are interchangable...but I'm sure someone on one of the Yammy forums would know. And I think all of the newer R6 trannys went from 3 to 5 dogs....

I do know, that my new/used transmission kicked ass this last week/weekend though It was so nice to have a bike that actually worked for once
