    WTB: old school BMX

Looking to relive my BMX racing glory days
Would love to find a early to mid 80's Schwinn Predator, but I know that's a long shot...

I raced a redline with Aiki(?) rims..Had a GT Performer and a GT Pro Performer. The GT got stolen and i chased him 2 miles before i cut through a few yards ran through a thorn bush and caught him, i hit him with my broken chain. Remember the Barefoot tires and bear trap pedals?

PK ripper was my favorite, wish I kept it. They're worth a fortune now.

My shins remember the bear trap pedals very well....

I had a 83'-84' Predator with a Redline forklifter stem, GT laid back seatpost and ACS z-rims. Used to race @ the YMCA in Hopkinton, track is still there in very poor condition.

There's still a bunch of companies building bikes in the us. S&m, fbm, standard, terrible1, they make some stuff overseas, but absolutely have stuff built here.
None with that sort of old school flavor though.

You can still get your hands on the old school bikes... start by checking out www.bmxmuseum.com. I've seen some schwinn predators from the 80's just like your pic going relatively cheap. I had that same frame when I was a kid... but what I really want is a 87 GT Pro Freestyle Tour w/the Power Series 3-piece cranks... preferably black and pink.

Grins... I saved three of mine to pass on to our kids. I have a GT Performer with some Diamond Back mags, an older Redline and a Haro Master which needs a bit of work.

If your serious pm about one. I dont have one but im big in the vintage bmx circles and can find you one. Currently im all about the oldschool cyclecrafts and auburns but those schwinns have a good following. prices can be cheapish for a rider or up to a couple hundred for a mint full resto. components can play with the price too.

quick check is a clean chrome frame starts at about 50 bucks shipped and a complete fully restored to oem is about 350. Personally id buy a frame and build it the way you want. combining old and new stuff can have some interesting effects.

Thanks for the offer, but I have found a 1986 CW racing california flyer BMX that I might snag.

thats a better choice. Try to pay attention to tube sizing and possible weight limits for the components. Alot of the older stuff just isnt designed for adults.
