After being told by local Yamaha dealer, South Shore Motorsports, that "they won't touch my 1989 Yamaha Virago, as it was more than 10 years old", even though they're an "authorized Yamaha Dealer", when it came time to buy a NEW bike, I refused to buy it from them!
I searched around and chatted with fellow bikers and found Andersen Cycle in Framingham, MA. Carlton is the owner and works there almost all of the time. They typicially charge 25-35% LESS than other Boston-based dealerships (where I always feel I'm being raped over labour costs, parts and the most expensive motor oil I've ever seen!)
Andersen Cycle stopped being an official Yamaha dealership (so you can't buy new Yamahas there now), but they have other makes!
Check 'em out if you're in the market for a new shop with mechanics that CARE.
(BTW: South Shore Motorsports went out of business this year! I wonder why!)
Are they still in the same location? I had heard that they had to move because of a rent increase or something. Nice guys..have had a couple of things done by them.
PD
FYI: SSM didn't go "out of business", the owner decided the powersports business wasn't for him.
Now that i'm done feeding the troll, back to you're regularly scheduled program.....

i never had any work done, but they were very helpful with diagnosing my old 1986 yamaha FZ600.
where did andersons moved to?
He's still in Framingham, in a small industrial park. I can get his new address. No longer a Yamaha dealer. Strictly an independent now.

That is nothing out of the ordinary. I won't send a bike over 10 years old through my service department either. Being an authorized dealer does not require them to take on the liability of touching your 20 year old machine. As soon as they touch it, they certify the road worthiness of the old POS. Plus, most repair bills will far exceed the value of the bike.
If you own a 20 year old motorcycle... learn how to work on it yourself.

well believe what you want to believe but I worked for Mark (owner of SSMS) and still talk to him to this day.

I have always used Andersons. Carlton is always a good person to talk to about bikes! Great to deal with for advise and repair work. Very reasonable rates, very good quality workmanship.
Haven't been there in a while, had no idea they moved. I was even on Franklin street Saturday and I do not remember seeing a sign there?

That property was sold for $1.5 mil. in June........ as in closed..... as in the deal was happening before Mark closed shop. I think there may be something more here than anyone here knows. I'll bet Mark made out just fine. The Bank financed more than 100% of the purchase price and recorded it as a "construction mortgage" on behalf of Reggie's Oil LLC. who bought it.

I had gone to him since I got my first bike, but the last couple of years the guys there were always trying to hose me on my inspection... which I didn't expect. First year the guy was telling me I needed new forks because of a tiny bit of oil... which he couldn't show me when I asked him. I went to the hd dealership and they passed me fine. The year after it was new tires, which I did have on the list to do, but I said you didn't even measure the depth.. so again I left. I'm done with that.. Carlton was very nice, the other guys were just giving me hassles... haven't stopped by to look for them in two years now.
