Probably not, but I have seen them make more power down low, and less power on top.
My race engines were wound up tight! :shredder:

SO, what you're saying is that it's possible that I may LOSE top end to gain low and mid-range power?

thats pretty much exactly what the Tech from Factory pro told me. and that you might need a little mixture adjustment to make it run nice and smooth.

Only a dyno, or dragstrip will tell...
My magneto was set to roll off some timing on the end of the pass, so I was able to get full advance down low for the launch, and quicken my 60 ft times, and not effect my MPH, and ET thru the traps.
The bike ran very consistant, so we knew if we put too much lead on top.
If anything you may have to open up your main jets, to compensate...

Hmmm. My CBR runs close to lean as it is. Maybe the advancer would be a bad idea.

I know where to put the next size up main jets! :drink:

Yeah, and you'd also have to remove the sealant you used to close up the mixture screws.
;)

Don't listen to him. I put some 101 octane in my ride on lawn mower and it was pulling 200mph wheelies down rt.93:beerbang:

Yeah that sucks, Your 160 MPH Runs down 495 are now going to be 154MPH Runs down 495
Re: Factory Pro Ignition Advancer
When I looked through the service manual to do the ignition advancer installation, the manual said to remove the tank prior to removing the stock piece.
Since the tank doesn't interfere with the cover's removal or installation, why does the service manual say to remove the tank? Safety from spark?
Re: Factory Pro Ignition Advancer
There should be no reason to remove the tank when doing the ignition advance. That makes no sense.

You've got instructions???
Did you get yours changed? I just did mine last night. Haven't ridden it yet to see if there's any difference, but I'm really hoping it helps in the 4-6K RPM range.
If not, then I guess I'll have to go meet TLRMan for a lesson in carbs and jetting. Maybe he can help me do the float bowl mod and the other suggested airbox mods.

No, it didn't come w/ instructions. I was referring to the service manual for removing the stock unit.
It also says to shift the bike into 6th and hold the rear brake to remove and retorque the bolt on the advancer.
Re: Factory Pro Ignition Advancer
Finally had the time to get this installed. Nice easy mod. The worst of it was getting the old gasket remnants off of the cover & engine casing.
Somehow, 43 ft/lbs seems a little slim for something that turns so damned fast, but I went by the book (read 50 times first, to make sure I had it straight.)
I didn't get to take her for a spin, since I finished up late, but she runs without any issues. This is an accomplishment, given that this is an ignition piece.
Guess I'll have to wait until Wed or Thu when the rain passes.

my ZZR service manual said the same thing, and i couldn't figure out why. when i did my advance a couple weeks ago there was absolutely no need to remove the tank. as you said, maybe it's a safety suggestion. my guide also suggested 6th gear & hold the rear brake - worked well.
took 20 minutes start to finish. definitely an easy mod for anyone considering it. super quick summary here.

here.
I figured out why they had you remove the tank. They wanted you to unplug the ignition pulse generator from under the tank, so you could remove it completely from the bike.
I simply unbolted it from the inside of the cover. It was about 40 minutes for me. 25 spent on removing the remains of the gaskets. 15 on the actual installation.
Re: Factory Pro Ignition Advancer
Just an update. I took the CBR out for a ride for thew first time with the advancer. As others have stated, it definitely helps out in the low and mid ranges. It's not like a kick in the ass, but it smooths out areas where is was a little sluggish.
A good investment, IMO and a really simple mod to do.
Re: Factory Pro Ignition Advancer
Same here....mine was installed recently and the bike loses its flat spots. Definitely a great mod to invest 50 bucks for.
