    Michelin Pilot Road 3

Looking for real world advise or experience. I need new tires on my bike and I am leaning towards these... Pros? Cons?

    http://www.motorcycle-superstore.com...ront-Tire.aspx

    Thanks
    Doug

Pros. Superb wet performance and long life.
Cons. Can be hard to source and they arent the cheapest tire out there.

In corners you can feel the sipes which to me wasn't confidence inspiring, I liked them but I like the pures much better.

I love them. I have 4k miles on mine and they hardly look used. Handled great in the rain, and took several 100*F, 8 hour days of riding without any noticeable breakdown or anything. I haven't had had any handling trouble with them even riding with a lot of spirit on less than ideal roads.

They WERE a pain to get, I had to get the front and back from different places, but I couldn't be happier with them and expect them to last at least another 10k miles.

    Highly recommend them.

How the heck do you get that kind of milage? I run PR2s and only get about 4k out of a set?

Road 3's should be 10K plus in mileage.

Should be plenty available. Michelin has no b/o's right now.

Not sure....SV1KS- I go hard of the line but I don't spin the tire or anything, I've skidded in corners when I've gone in too quick and had to brake hard, but it didn't seem to make a difference when I checked later.

I wore a pair of Pirelli's to the belts in 4k on my first SV650... IMO, these are just really good tires!

I'm going to give the PR3s a shot in the spring. The PR2s on the FJR are completely shot. I'm starting to think that there is something about the way I ride that kills tires. I go through them on the SV track bike at a retarded rate. About 4 days per set.

I've had mine all season and have well over 5k miles on them, including some spirited riding in the rain. The wear well, grip well, and I am very happy with them.

The Road 3 is also the preferred wet weather DOT race tire for Michelin.

I should put a set on Emma's bike for track days. Then the weather will never be a concern for her. Or me for that matter.

Have there been reported issues with these tires since the guy with the FZ6 who's tired chunked up?

love the 2CT for street use.. got a lot less life than Coreys Pures though.. we have very similar riding styles although my bike is a 1000. But i changed tires 3 times within 8500 miles

I have to say the Road 2 Rear has exceeded my expectations. It is a great wet tire and it handles everything I throw at it in the dry. I have a pilot power 2CT front and I haven't had any problems.

I put on about 4000 miles this summer (commuting, couple 7 hour trips to maine) and the Road 2 doesn't show any flat spotting. It will easily go another 4000, maybe even 6 if I didn't ride the spirited pace.

Road 2 should be 10 with ease. I've seen 10k plus on some Max BMW customer bikes and they looked great.

In corners you can feel the sipes which to me wasn't confidence inspiring, I liked them but I like the pures much better.

Spirited street, probably an A pace lol, I found that pressures were very important, I got the feeling to go away slightly with 34lbs instead of 30 or 32.

Yeah, I've currently got almost 14k on a set of Pilot Road 2's and will likely replace them shortly after Spring comes 'round. I've heard great things about the 3's in the wet, but that the 2's are better in the dry. I've ridden the 2's in the wet many times and NEVER had a traction issue. For me, no question I'm sticking with the 2's again until the 3's have more availability and road time.

+1 - Have road 2's on my bike with about 4k miles on them. Have great grip and wear very slowly.

    Re: Michelin Pilot Road 3

I put on a set of PR3's this year, 180/120. They did everything perfectly except last a long time. The rear was done after 3500 miles including one trackday, the front is faring better but only has a couple thousand left in it, might get 6000 if I run it bald. I didn't notice any extra life over my previous set of Pilot Power 2CT's (less even), but the siping on the 3's gave me better traction in the wet and cold. Definitely soft sides, the cornering traction is great but I wore the sides off the rear before the center. I treated these tires well, considering I paid more for them than I have for any tire before. Perhaps I am a tire killer? Many people noticed the tread pattern and asked me about them, there was a clear line between loved/hated the siped design appearance. I wanted to extend my riding season and do longer trips so I went for them, never noticed any performance lacking, just wished the life were longer. How do you folks get such high mileage out of tires??
