Thumbs up Impact Armor (chest protector)

I have to give two thumbs up to Mike at Impact Armor!

    Cliff notes:
    Quick shipping for the template
    Great communication
Sped up process for last minute trackday
    Overnighted chest protector to track
In my hands before the first session!
    Great Product

    Long Version:
I called him to order a chest protector in March...somewhere in the middle of the month. Gave him my measurments and chatted for a few minutes. Told him when the first race weekend was and he guaranteed I'd have it prior to leaving for the track.

About three days later, my template arrived in the mail (CA to MA). I tried it for fit and made some slight adjustments. Called him and left a message with the adjustments and the go ahead to manufacture. He returned my call later that night, confirmed my measurments and told me where I stood in the pecking order of completion....that it would definately be at my door by Wednesday prior to leaving for the track on Thursday. He didn't, however, think it would be earlier due to other work for races the weekend prior to LRRS. Fine with me, I had no commitments.

Well, after signing on last minute for the TTD this past Tuesday, I called him at the end of last week to see if it was in transit so I could use it on Tuesday rather than wait until the weekend. He said he expected it to go out on Monday, but he would try and speed it up for me. Got a call back Saturday night saying that he couldn't get it out on Saturday for shipment to the house, but he would be able to get it out first thing Monday morning and would gladly ship it to the track (Priority Overnight) so I'd have it Tuesday morning.

Monday night he called back (again) and gave me the Track Ops point of contact and phone number and told me to expect it around 10 am. Sure enough, just as I'm putting my helmet on for my first session, Track Ops shows up and hands me my chest protector.

Perfect fit, perfect timing...and it even has my name on it. I'll be calling him on Monday with a review after wearing it for a few days, but if Tuesday was any indication, I don't think I'll have much bad to say.

Impact Armor makes a great product for anyone looking into a back and/or chest protector....and his prices are pretty reasonable, especially considering everything he makes is custom measured for you. Also, if I remember reading correctly on Tony's website, he's set up a discount for those TTD patrons ordering both chest and back protectors at the same time.

I did see a few of you already use Impact Armor stuff, but it gets two thumbs up from me.

Yea, the stuff is nice. However, I had the opposite experience. Took longer than anticipated to get the stuff and ive had some issues with it and have been trying to get a new piece (Im willing to pay for it) and since mid february and he's been telling me its too busy to get to.

Thanks for reminding me though, I'm going to call again right now.

edit: spoke to mike and he said hes going to hopefully get it done in the next week or two.

Yeah... things were pretty slow when I ordered mine a while back, but I believe things are better these days.

If you're like me, you will feel naked when you ride without it.

When you get the templates, make sure the two pieces touch eachother (meaning they cover your sides). That's one of the main benefits of the system.

I believe that was Manny's problem?

    Impact Armor (chest protector)

Just wanted to add my thumbs up to Mike at Impact Armor as well. Emailed my order friday, called me within a couple hours to confirm, worked on the template over the weekend, and promised me the final product for the TTD Sept 2 day.

    Impact Armor (chest protector)

Order came in Tuesday at the track as promised. I did call/email a couple times to verify everything was on track. I crash tested it the first session wearing it. It was a slow lowside coming out of the apex at 3, but it was more fun than anything else. I don't want to test it any more than that, but I'm sure I will. Very comfortable once adjusted properly (initially I had the back protector a little too high and my helmet was hitting it as I was leaned over causing my head to not be able to move in the direction I wanted).

Tony, you didn't lie, it is a great product. For the money I don't think you can beat it.

After wearing it all season I still don't have anything bad to say about the product. I feel "exposed" in my leathers without it on. I'll be calling Mike when it's time to replace my current back protector.

Just saw this pic, also... CE still rockin the Impact Armor in MotoGP!
