i wasnt gonna do this but the Cycles thread got me going so here it is:

its march so its time for me to register and inspect my vehicles (except bike). go to town hall and get raped for $300+ before the $25 vanity plate fee and $55 at the NHDMV for license renewal. i still need to get it inspected. usually shops charge anywhere from $30-50..well the auto store down the street from work is doing them for $5...hell yeah! gonna get me an oil change with the $ im saving. have to make an appt. no biggie. set it up for thurs at 3. i have to leave work early for this but again no biggie.
in goes the car.
let me back up a little here. NH gives you a shitty cardboard plate when you order vanity plates. in my experience they get beat up by the rain and ive had a couple fall off. i hadnt taken the 30 seconds it takes to actually mount it to the car but i stuck it in the back window...perfectly legible. (maybe not at night but its 3pm).
back to the story. about 20 min or so go by and the mechanic comes out and says::
Mech- wheres the reg for this car
me -its in your hand
M- but this reg doesnt match the plate
m-i havent got the new plates yet but the temp is in the window
M-i dont understand, wheres the old reg?
m- its in the car but it does you no good because the new reg is in your hand
at this point i notice that the 2010 plate stickers are no longer stapled to my reg.
m- you put the stickers on the old plates didnt you?
M- well yeah
m- your job is to inspect it..not register it
M- but those are the plates on the car
m-but they dont match the reg do they?
M-well no
m-now i need new stickers
M- ill pay for the stickers
m- your right...you will
M- but where are your plates that match this reg?
m- in the back window
M-
at this point ive all but lost my mind and we go out into the shop where i get more angry as the "i dont understand" show continues and a crowd of mechanics forms around us.
m-see right here (pointing to cardboard plate) this IS the plate
M- well then what are these from? (pointing at old plates)
m- seriously?
as i explain the process of registering a vehicle to him my blood boils especially when after i explain AGAIN to him the plate situation he shakes his head and gives me "i dont understand"
now ive lost it. im yelling. im swearing (which by some miracle ive avoided up til this point). the mgr says "your talking about 30 years of experience here" (pointing to retard mech.) "well 30 years of experience just put the stickers on the wrong fucking plates!" at this point im escorted out of the shop and they have refused to inspect my car.
Mgr says: the plates not attached
me- thats a technicality, its there.
M- it has to be mounted
m-give me my keys now
get my keys and leave. i make a couple phone calls and discover that new stickers will run me roughly $20.
i go back.
talk w/ the Mgr and explain that i will be back for my free oil change and insp. due to the $20 ill have to pay for new stickers. he agrees. i tell him that this all could have been avoided if someone had actually checked the reg against the plate and if there was an issue then it could have been remedied then. "if you really needed the plate on there i wouldve done it..gimmie a screwdriver" to which he replies "we would have done it for you".........i bite my tongue but inside im screaming WELL THEN WHY THE FUCK DIDNT YOU!?IDIOTS!!!
