    Motul chain lube

I saw a new Motul display at Bettencourts this weekend, so I reached out to my Motul contact to get some info about it.
I've always been a fan of Chain Wax by Maxima, but would like to try the Motul stuff out.

    his response:
We have two chain lubes for Road bikes.

Chain lube Road - Petroleum based, comes out clear, very strong tack so it doesn't fling off.

Chain lube Factory line(For road racing) - Petroleum based, comes out white, medium tack so there is less drag on the chain and sprocket. Boron is used in the this product to create a barrier between the sprocket and the chain so there is less rolling resistance, there fore more power.

We don't believe in Wax chain lubes here as the Wax tends to build up and attract dirt, sand, etc. Which in turn wears out your drive train.

    I hope this helps.
so i just placed my order.

Which one did you order? Will the race formula induce more chain wear?

Billy, i assume you've been using Chain lube Road.
I'm going to try the Chain lube Factory line(For road racing) stuff.

I also ordered a bottle of RBF600 brake fluid to replace the Galfer 5.1 that's in there now.

I know you all use kerosene to clean your chains, but the Motul chain cleaner is the balls. of course that's just my opinion, argue among yourselves.

Jim. You've been in my garage enough times to see the can of Motul factory chain lube I have in there.

I used chain wax for a couple years. Not a bad product, but it DEFINITELY attracts the dirt. I tried Motul chain clean and lube for the first time this summer and I love it.

    that stuff is great.

Jim I've been using the Factory Line stuff for a couple years now. I know I don't lube my chain probably nearly enough but still surprised you've never seen me use it.

    Re: Motul chain lube

My biggest issue with Chain lube is if its messy or not. I have never really compared how they actually lubricate. My thoughts are as long as I lube my Chain every 500 miles or every time it rains I'll be fine since any lube should be sufficient at that point.

I use the Silkolene Pro Race lube and it's awesome. My bike doesn't have a drop of spatter on it and the chain feels nice and oily when its hot.

If the Motul is clean maybe I'll give it a whirl.

    Re: Motul chain lube

I have never noticed any fling off with the Motul Factory Line chain lube and its suppose to fling off easier than the regular one according to what Jim's Motul Rep says.

    Re: Motul chain lube

so I cleaned my chain really good last week with kerosene & gave the chain a good coat of the Motul Factory Lube and tried it out over last weekend's race event. I'm not sure how frequent it's required, but the bottle said to apply before each race. I ended up giving it another coat after one of my races each day. I see very little fling on the swingarm & my chain looks much cleaner than when I used Chain Wax.

Looks like I'm sticking with another Motul product

    Re: Motul chain lube

Just picked up a can of Motul cleaner and Road lube. I didn't use the cleaner yet as I cleaned it not too long ago, but the Road lube sprayed out clear and watery and quickly turns sticky. I did notice some flight on my exhaust and the underside of my tail, but I didn't let it sit for more than 15 minutes after applying it.

Should I clean everytime I lube. How often should I clean and/or lube?

    Re: Motul chain lube

I make it a habit of cleaning the chain before each lube job. That way you are starting off with a fresh canvas so to say. The golden rule is 500 miles for cleaning, but this also depends on what kind of riding you do. If you ride in the rain or like getting dirty then I would clean and lube the chain after each ride. IMHO cleaner and lube is cheaper then a new chain.

i clean and lube every 300 miles on my street bike. if i let it get to 500 miles (very rare) then i use kerosene, the grundge brush, and a chain cleaner.
