This is it...... you can do it! It's nice when you've got guys going down that you can either ride with or send you bike with.

Eric, I've got a certificate somewhere that I've been saving for the advanced school. Could it be used for the Friday event at homestead? I'm trying to figure out if I can afford this whole event.

Ok, assuming a LOT of MAYBEs turn into YESs I should be able to get myself and my bike there. That would leave me looking for machine (and possibly a box or two of spares/etc) transport home... this is going to be a crazy amount of logistics wrangling for me, easily a couple steps above any craziness I've tried for before.

Things to sort BEFORE arranging home transport:
    - Finish bike, engine is ready, now the bike just needs EVERYTHING ELSE!
    - Verify bike transport to Homestead
    - Verify vacation time
    - Verify funds for:
    - - Airfare down
    - - CCS license (which means I've got to find out if I can renew and at what rank or if I'm taking the school again...)
    - - Practice/entry fees/Penguin?
    - - Hotel

If I can lock in the above, I'll spam here and NEAR about the rest.

Oh, and you're all terrible influences!

    Re: Homestead February 10-12

If people make a plan and can find a trailer large enough (I have only a 6x10), with my recent vehicle upgrade, I'm good for 7000 lbs towing capacity.

    This is the deal:

I will pick up bikes/ gear and will cover tolls to and from, you guys figure out how to pay for my gas.

    Regional fuel price averages

I ran the following (worst case scenario) numbers:

    Fuel economy - 8mpg
    Gas - $5/ gal
    Distance - 3200 miles
Round trip cost in fuel - $2000

Again, those are worst case scenario numbers. Realistically I am expecting fuel economy to be 12 or higher in the flat states and if fuel jumps to $5/ gal between now and Feb then holy shit! Distance is from Concord, NH to Miami, FL

Just throwing it out there since I too cannot do the trip on my own.

I'll let you guys work out all the details. Steve Aspland expressed to me that if he got enough guys, that he was interested in doing it. However, if you guys put things together here, that's perfectly OK as well. I can tell you that we sent our box truck and trailer, weighing 20,000 pounds total and towing 9 bikes down there, for $800 in gas, including a 6 hour trip from the track to Tampa after the event (our truck stays in Florida from December to February).

Round Trip Airfare is under $250 right now - MHT to FLL, Thursday in, Monday out.

To be clear, I don't want to come across as stepping on anyone's toes with regards to transport. Just wanted to throw out another option for folks in addition to Steve's offer.

No worries....it's all good. I just want to see a crowd of our guys down there. It's a great place to ride and should to be a good show as well. With the AMA round coming, I won't be surprised if we see a couple other contenders down there looking to learn the place.

Based on your intended leave time and arrival in Miami, you are in for some hard hours at the wheel.

I've done that drive a few times alone and it is doable in one shot but just be prepared to either take a power nap at some point and/ or lose your mind.

    Eric,
Is there a way to get the Sunday race schedule for Homestead? It would be nice to see their schedule so it would give us an idea on budgeting for the race day. Also I looked at the ccs entry form and they are showing $80 for the first race entry and $55 for each additional race. Pre entry for practice says $125. Is this all accurate? Like most here I am set on wanting to show LRRS support at the Penguin day and budgeting is everything.

CCS Florida is different from regular CCS. All entries are $65, and Saturday practice is $100. Call Henry Degouw for the schedule, I'm sure he'll be happy to send it over to you.

I've had a couple people ask me about Steve Aspland's status for this trip. Steve's contact information is not a secret (RS Cycles). Email is steve@rscycles.com and phone is 860 916 3696. Anyone who is interested in working together with Steve should contact him and get things all set up so that everyone can plan accordingly.

Heh, it might as well have been a secret, I've talked to the guy before and still didn't connect 'Steve Aspland' with Steve @ RS Cycles. Some of us aren't that bright at times it seems... d-oh!

Looks like that record is under threat from multiple angles, should be good racing!

I expected those guys to go fast. In order for a record to be "official" it has to be during a race or timed qualifying. Jeff is hoping to get it back in february and hold it until the AMA guys race down there in September. I hope he can get it done.

    Re: Homestead February 10-12

I think that it's pretty cool that LRRS has guys that are talented enough to ride at a level that is within a second of factory guys from the AMA in Superbike. If Jeff gets along with the machine that he rides down there in February and gets into the 22's, that's a pretty big deal. It wasn't that long ago that I remember the top AMA Superbike riders to be virtually untouchable due to their access to equipment that was so far superior to that of the average racer. Don't get me wrong, those guy can absolutely ride....but the rest of the racing "mortals", when they are on their game and get on decent machinery, are closer than you may think. It will be fun to watch.

anything else we need to know about requirements? like something anyone can think of that might be different from LRRS rules.

the LRRS transponder will work, but does it need to be located by the rar axle (tail or fender).
    gas requirements.
    snell 2005/2010 helmets.
    chest/back protector.
    etc....

They follow the CCS rules as written for equipment / riding gear - no fuel rules (sunoco available on site)
