Homestead Nov 30 Information and Travel

The Penguin School has been goming to Homestead since 1996. In the past 16 years we've had the privilege of teaching thousands of riders at one of the finest facilities in the country. Riders from the Northeast have come down many times to enjoy the spectacular weather in December. This Friday event precedes the CCS Florida finale December 1 & 2. Years ago, Jerry Wood came up with a unique schedule for these events that has been in place since we held the first motorcycle event at the speedway years ago......but we felt it was time for a change. For all of the details on this new schedule CLICK HERE. Here are a few of the highlights:

NEW - Lower Price, All Day Riding & Racer Practice!

Pre Registration pricing for the school has dropped from $280 to $250.
Instead of starting track activity at Noon, we start riding in the 9 o'clock hour!
The afternoon sessions will be extended an extra hour until 6PM
Now available - All Day Racer Practice Sessions between school sessions for only $150 (pre registration price)
Basic (License Certification) &Advanced (Racer and Street Rider) Classes

    NESR Guys
: The Ealy family has a limited number of spots to provide reasonable ($300) round trip transportation for your motorcycle from NH to FL and back. Interested parties please email us.

For any questions, please email us at info@penguinracing.com , we look forward to seeing you at the event!

for 1st time Homestead riders that would plan on doing the CCS event, would you recommend the track day or the racer practice?

$600ish to get my machine down there and attend the school... would just have to get myself down there, hotel'd and back... I couldn't run in CCS FL finale though as I don't have any prior entries this year, correct?

Edit: I'm thinking about the ROC, no reason I couldn't play in the CCS FL race.

Edit: Looking at Orbitz, it's about $525 for airfare down, a hotel for 4 nights, budget car rental and airfare back. Is camping at the track viable?

So, for me to fly down by myself, race two sprints and a GT, fly back, while taking up the Ealy family on their offer I'd be looking at $1300 without stopping to eat. This is tempting. I'd need to get my fairing stay welded before then...

My wife is kinda on board with this too which is cool.

So, given I haven't been under a green flag since 2009, am on a bike that is totally new to me and I don't know the line down there, would you suggest the Basic school, or hope I can put two and two together enough to get something out of the Advanced school?

I would do the school for sure. We have a full advanced school and you will certainly get a big leg up by taking part in that. We've got a lot of time there and can certainly help you get rolling.

They do not do camping at Homestead....so you'll need a hotel. Lots of reasonable stuff in Florida City, right down the road.

Cool, still trying to finagle finances on my end to pull this off but I suspect I'm going to have to wait for spring to see a green flag again officially.

Re: Homestead Nov 30 Information and Travel

This event should be good, the CCS races are always fun in December as those guys pay double points - making the championships harder to clinch before the last event. They actually get spectators for these events, which is great to see. For those of you who have never been there...the "dash" in Florida is Unlimited GP, and they have a bonus (50%) if you run with NO MUFFLER. Makes for a show that you can't miss when those bikes are on the track (nothing like a 190HP GSXR1000 with no muffler to wake you up).

I hope to see a good crowd down there.

I have not confirmed, but Dan Martin usually goes. Rick Doucette and Rick Breen sometimes have room....Zev Ginsburg often makes the trip. There is a start anyway.....

    Eric,
Does Penguin have all of the rental stuff available as well? Do you know what the availability of a superbike is at this time?

    Thanks,
    Dana

Re: Homestead Nov 30 Information and Travel

There are a couple weeks left before the registration discount runs out....so if you are thinking about attending this event be sure to sign up early to take advantage of that offer. There is a lot to like about Miami this time of year.....as things start to get chilly up here the weather is perfect down there.

Re: Homestead Nov 30 Information and Travel

Are there any potential pitfalls heading down there to race for the first time in years? Does CCS South require any special "non-traditional" tech measures like the eject system or brake lever guards? Looking to jump back into the fray and may be heading down for my first race in a year or two.

No, it's pretty straightforward. THe only thing that you need there that you do not at home is CCS everywhere else has a different transponder. Fortunately, the CCS one is under $100.

You can rent them for $25/event or buy them for $80. They're non-rechargeable ones that last about 3 years.

Just a heads up - and I know it's last minute - but I got the word today that there are a couple holes in trucks going to Homstead if anyone is interested. Anyone who wants information can email info@penguinracing.com

Thanks Penguin for a great session at Miami's Homestead.
I really loved the track (once I started to understand it) and as usual I've learned so many new things to work on.

    Thanks,
    Dana
