mabe a stupid question..i read somewhere that you are required to have insurance for the track, is this true?

No, but it is highly recommended (if you are talking about health insurance). Anytime you participate in any sport that has a risk of injury, you are nuts if you don't have health insurance. As for bike insurance (if that is your question)....most companies won't touch a racetrack bound bike with a 10 foot pole.
