Few questions from my friend about Penguin

My buddy just signed up for Penguin 8/10/2012 Basic School. He's wondering the following....

    1. If he wants to do the rookie race on Saturday, does the bike have to be prepped to pass race tech, or just penguin tech?

    2. Does he have to pay extra just to do the rookie race or is it included in the basic school?

    Thanks!

    Brad

Unless things have changed... the rookie race is included but you must purchase a license and register for at least one other "real" race. This means yes your bike must pass LRRS tech inspection.

the basic school requires just their track day tech. he'll need to have LRRS tech for his rookie race on saturday morning.
the rookie race is included in the fee for the basic course

The Rookie Race on Saturday is done on the first weekend that he actually races. He needs to buy the license, register for a race and have a completely race prepped machine.

The Rookie Race does not cost anything....it is essentially the "final exam" for an LRRS license.

If your friend runs 1:21's on his rookie weekend like a lot of these new rookies have been, tell him to slow down.

I'm sick of seeing these fast rookies out there. It's embarrassing to us more experienced & slower guys.

Re: Few questions from my friend about Penguin

Sorry for getting off topic but that was kinda my point and granted I did my rookie race in Arizona but even with LRRS I was told they put the fear of god in you that if you crash or fuck up you can't get your license. That the rookie race was not a race and you should just circulate the 3 laps and stay UP. Yet people crash and still get it.

Maybe stuff has changed and it doesn't matter so much anymore, I just always thought it was weird. And yes I know there are always circumstances beyond our control and we are trying to build the sport but where are the consequences? It would be interesting to know when the last time someone was denied a license.

Again Sorry for going off topic and I am just curious and asking the question because people have asked me and I have no idea why.

It's moreso making sure that people know what they did and what went wrong and that they have learned from it.

Yes I understand. So they do not say in the school that if you crash you don't get your license? I did not take the Penguin basic school but I was told my first weekend that is what is said. (I did do the Pengin Rookie race my first weekend at NHMS even though I already had my license)

They did say that to me in Arizona.

Re: Few questions from my friend about Penguin

there was a guy in my basic class that could not hold a predictable line at all AND he crashed in the rookie race. I don't know what the result was, I haven't seen him racing yet, but honestly I'd be kind of pissed if he got his license. That's not safe for everyone else.

Re: Few questions from my friend about Penguin

We try to make fair assesments for everyone. Yes, we tell them not to crash and note that they may not get a license of they do. However, we investigate every incident and rely on common sense and our experience when making these judgements. Steve Nogueira has been doing this for a long time and I thinks that he does a great job.

Hey Brad. Tell your buddy to sign up for NESR and ask his own questions. Are you going to be holding his hand at Penguin as well. JK

Everyone is great at Penguin. Just tell him to enjoy the day. NO stress.

I remember at Penguin trying to wrap my head around how Steve flew that ZRX around the track.
