do you wear all the time? sometime?
"fuckit!"
Hah? What? What did you say? I can't hear you? Can you repeat that? What's that take 2 streets and take left?
Some of the time? E Specially during bike week when riding near those noisy chrome looking things that sound like crap.

Heres a condom. I figured since youre acting like a dick, you should dress like one too.
It is hard to wear them in the city because it really helps to hear there, but I keep a set of ear plugs in the bike just in case I decide a little farther then just around the corner.
Jesse
Try to use them for every ride.....
My ride's
95 FZR 1000
19xx DOUBLE "D"
(sold) 02 CBR600 F4i (track bike)
06 Chevy Supercharged Cobalt SS
Wear 'em a lot.
Not so much to prevent hearing loss, a full face helmet does a lot for that. It's more to hear the engine & environment better.
Earplugs filter out the white noise (ie: wind) and allow you to hear the important stuff better.
Just keep in mind when you pull up to somebody and start yacking away at them that you're probably speaking quite a bit louder then you think...unless you pop them out first.![]()
Most of the time...I keep a set in my jacket.
im reading an article "Earplugs" by flash gordon md in Motorcycle Consumer News mag. im not clear if the article talks about earplug prevents hearing loss if not wear in addition to helmet or not. i haven't been wearing so im little nervous about ear protection.
"fuckit!"
All the time... If I ride a few hours at high speed without them my ears will be ringing.
I find in the city that wearing them helps my concentration, as I hear too much without them and it makes it harder to pay attention.
I noticed I ride A LOT faster with ear plugs then when not.

Kham-
full-face helmets only reduce noise somewhat, earplugs (in addition) do a much better job.
'specially if your helmet has good ventilation... better ventilation = more noise.
started wearing 'em most of the time (except when commuting) last year, for me, they definitely do reduce noise fatigue & improve concentration.![]()

i got a pack of 32dbr foamies in my "trunk".... i USUALLY wear em, but only if i'm gonna be at highway speeds (50+) continuously for more than 10-20 minutes. (notice i said "at highway speeds", not "on the highway" )
i have a KBC VR-1 helmet & although it's kinda loud i found so many good reviews for it & there's no way i coulda beat the price i got it at ($130 SHIPPED... 2002 model)
anyone have any links to inexpensive but decent custom earplugs?
i just dug this site up, thought it would be of interest - http://www.earplugs.gb.com/motorcyclists.htm

before going custom, I decided to get Aerostich's "variety pack"... found an off-the-shelf plug that does the trick for me, now I can get 'em anywhere!Originally posted by OreoGaborio

I noticed that as well... I caught myself a few times when I looked at the speedoOriginally posted by snowborder
I noticed I ride A LOT faster with ear plugs then when not.I was a lot faster than I thought! I can ussually estimate my speed by the gear I am in and sound of the engine, but notwith the ear plugs!!!
I only tend to wear them when hitting the highway, always have some n the tank bag!
I just got my hearing test from work, and I have very little hearing loss over the past 5 years. I never wore ear plugs before this season, so I dont think riding without them hurt me too much, it just helps reduce the distracting sounds while riding. If you have a good helmet you may not feel the need for earplugs. With my Shoei the turbulance is minimal, with a good fitting newer Arai you wont need plugs, those are very quiet. Thats probably going to be my next helmet to purchase.

I have an Arai RX-7 and I have noticed the opposite of what you stated. There seems to be more wind noise with this helmet than what I had with my previous helmets which were AGV and HJC. I love all of the extra vents, but I think that they are the primary cause of the extra wind noise. Don't buy an Arai because of any perceived notions of sound deadening.Originally posted by Half Squid

I totally agree......I went froma HJC (CL-12?) to a Arai RX-7 and I think that due to the better vent in the RX you do pay for in wind noise...... I use earplugs if I playing on anydistance over 20 miles

Don't get me wrong, I love my Arai. The fit is amazing and the vents really help cool my head. The graphics are a plus as well. Just make sure you use earplugs and you'll be set.Originally posted by Half Squid

so I went to the nearest dealership and bought the cheapest helmet they had cuz i thought it would be temporary. it's way more comfortable than the arai quantum's i was trying on and thinking about getting, and i love the visibility!

2 raffle tickets @ $10 each = $20
and, BTW... I started wearing earplugs when I started wearing it... much louder than my old Shoei, but the weight and airflow are miles better, so it's well worth it.![]()
