question about the size of sport bikes.

Last season my brother who is 5'11" and weighs 315 had a 2000 zx9r and bareley fit on it, he was hit by a car on it and now the insurance company owns it, the question I have is he wants to buy a new bike and he has been going out and sitting on a few of them and they are all really small. He likes the way my bike feels but he wants a bigger engine, because I have a zx7r. Does anyone know if any of the new bikes are any bigger? I dont want him to get a busa because I know he is not ready for that, but I need to at least have some suggestions for him! Thank you very much!

Jesse

question about the size of sport bikes.

ok i'll say it, tell him to lose weight i am also around the same height and this summer was up to 245lbs. i lost 40 lbs so far and can't wait to see how it affects my riding.

is he a big muscle dude? anyways a big naked bike might be the thing he's look'in for. fz1,z1000, kawi's other big trex naked 1200. if naked won't work zx-12r?

You tell him yourself....

but good luck telling a 300+ pound airborn ranger who is also a police officer to lose weight.

I suggested the naked bikes but he wants full faring.....

ouch i see your point. well i know you don't want to see him on a busa or zx-12r but.... hows about a bid sport cruiser like the fjr 1300. bikes like that have the look but are more rider friendly and not quite as fast as a busa?

zx12R or a busa, as long as you don't ride like a retard a big bike isn't a problem. He can always customize bikes to an extent to make them more comfortable for him too. A corbin seat makes a ton of difference.

Might be he's just being picky though. I have a friend that's 6'1" and says he doesn't fit on any bikes. That's 1 inch bigger than me and I fit fine on everything. I hear this guy is perfectly comfortable on his erion.

question about the size of sport bikes.

I am surprised the military allows him to be 315 at his height, I guess it is OK for some positions, I know that would be way too heavy for 5'11" for many positions.

I'm 6'1" and I have tons of room on my VFR, but I weigh 1/2 what he does, he would get annoyed with lack of torque.

If I were him I'd just get a Busa too. He is basically carrying two people on the bike as far as the design goal for a japanese sportbike.

Losing weight is always going to greatly increase performance.

IIRC the formula just for acceleration is 6lbs = 1hp? So blackvfr is in for a fun time this spring.

315 is a lot for EVERYTHING

the weight he is at now is down for him, he was 340.....but had to lose some weight, now that he is a police officer full time, and just weekend warrior for the military, he is the first officer they want when shit hits the fan, he can pretty much run through anyone. The reasons that I dont want him on a busa is that he rides like a jackass, he loves to "PLAY" on the highway, this is on the bike as well as in his car, he is a cop after all and knows he will not get a ticket. He is also not all that experienced, he has had one season on a zx9r, and he ended up getting hit by a car, it was the cars fault, but there were things that he could have done if he had been driving more cautiously.... Thats why I was hoping for something a little less the the BUSA.

I will say it. If he rides lke a jackass then it does not matter what he rides he is going to hurt himself. Just hope that when he does no one else in involved.

If he rides like you say he does, he shouldn't be on any bike.

He can hurt himself or worse on a 250 or a 1300. Doesn't matter when it all comes down to it.

The ZX12R has everything he could want and he should be very comfy on it.

I would ditto the suggestion for a TLR...I'm a little biased since that's what I have, but compared to new inline liter bikes, it's pretty big and it's heaveir, but still makes good power..I'm 6'0 290, and I think it fits me great.

I know this will sound crass, but I think darwinism is going to sort this one out.

I have a lifelong friend who works in law enforcement. He is also a total drunk when off duty. He does the same bit as you describe with your brother - I am above getting a ticket/arrested, so therefore I have 9999 lives.

I used to tell him that you can't argue with a tree, and once he made an accident where someone got hurt, he would get caught.

He crashed into a tree while following his cop buddies as they went from one bar to another. The police on the scene let him off the hook - after all, he's part of the brotherhood!

After being strapped for a spineboard for 6 hours, getting cat scans and being told it was unclear if he had spinal injuries, he was scared straight (literally) for about 2-3 weeks. Now he's back to antics. I hope he doesn't die, kill anyone or lose his job. Funny part is he's always dumfounded why we don't ride to the bar with him.

That said - I'd suggest a mountain bike.

Nope...Sorry...Made too big a difference in rideability...Prior to the PCII, it was remapped a few different times with the slip ons, and it ran like crap from 2K - 3K RPM, throttle respionse was bad, and would stall at lights...A local Ducati dealership put in the PCII and mapped it for me on the dyno, and we gained about 6 RWH and throttle reponse is NICE!

I would also suggest a ZX-12R, Busa, or ZZR-1200 if he is looking for a full fairing bike. The ZZR is a fantastic all purpose bike but I prefered the power of the 12R. Between the 12R and Busa, he will have to sit on both of them to decide what he likes better. I'm 6'0" and about 255lbs with a 31" inseam and I fit on both of them pretty well. If he has a short inseam, he will like the busa better. The taller guys tend to like the 12R because of how tall it is. Either bike will accelerate him to retarded speeds before he can even think about it!

Have him sit on both and if possible, test ride both. I'm sure one of the two will make him quite happy.
