an ordinance that will backfire on home owners, they will not be able to have a backyard party, but the motorsport park will be able to buffer their niose before it hits property line

But ,Randy, It states

The new ordinance limits noise to 69 decibels at all “private driving instruction and exhibition facilities.”

This does not apply to homeowners only racetracks. How many tracks are there in Tamworth now? Oh I know almost 1.

What they did was probably illegal. It has to apply to all businesses. They will get it overturned or at least get the limit to a higher level but its another wrench in the gears.

Also for those who don't know sound is on a logarithmic scale. 69db is extremly quiet for any motor vehicle.

Quote:
Under the decibel (dB) scale, when the sound level increases by 3 dB, the actual sound energy doubles. This means that half of the sound energy must be eliminated to reduce the sound level by 3 dB. With a 6 dB increase, sound quadruples.

The ear does not perceive changes in the sound level in the same degree that sound energy increases. Most people would barely notice a 3 dB change. A 6 dB change is clearly noticeable, while a 10 dB increase would be perceived by the ear as doubling the loudness. This difference between the ear's perception and the amount of sound energy actually produced is critically important. It means that 90% of a given sound energy must be eliminated before most people will judge a sound half as loud.

The decibel scale also does not reflect the degree of irritation that certain sounds may cause to people. A loud, steady sound is less irritating than a softer, pulsating sound. Sounds that are acceptable during daytime hours are often not acceptable during nighttime hours.

Club Motorsports, which wants to carve a European-style road course and hotel into the north face of the 2,230-foot mountain, has called the move another activist swipe at development.

This quote form the article says it all. My advice for the developers would be to find another community friendly to the prospect of bringing in a racetrack. A racetrack, btw, would bring in jobs, tax revenue, boost the local economy and provide a safe environment for motorsport enthusiasts to enjoy their hobbies. All could be done without disrupting the peace of the local community. But, the activists don't want anybody to enjoy their lives, instead they prefer to paint their doom and gloom scenarios to scare the local residents to their twisted way of thinking.

Fuckin' environmental nutjobs....

Correct, however it also falls off with the square of the radius. This is the inverse square law, and means that the SPL decreases 6dB with every doubling of distance.

69dB is at the property line. Assume that the noise output of your motorcycle at one meter distance (standard dbm weighted scale) is 100dbm (pretty fuggin loud), that means that the property line must be located 2^5 = 32 meters from the extent of the track. This is not difficult.

The theory Honclfibr is using also assumes open air. A simple row of shrubs, or a lovely 10 foot high concrete noise barrier right on the property line would change the readings significantly. Sometimes the enviro-nazi's overlook a simple detail and it comes right back and bites them in the ass.

My impression is that the club moto whatever folks really fucked this whole thing up by being stupid, greedy, and lazy. And are trying to scapegoat the whole deal onto the "environmentalists" for imposing a noise ordinance that is completely reasonable.

Their management fucked shit up by making wild promises to everyone and their mother that they had no ability to keep, in order to pull in money to support their venture. Their website is a joke in it's optimism (read the note from the CEO, the guy has no fucking clue what's going on), they're just NOW trying to secure the EPA permits despite the fact that the track was supposed to open, what, a year ago?

Their website is full of details about how to get them your money, but short on details about how they plan to implement their construction plan and be on schedule for this summer. Meanwhile they're burning through all the investors' cash paying fancy executive salaries for clueless CEOs to write letters about how he doesn't know shit about what is going on but Tamworth is going to be fucking awesome.

I'd love to have a nice track in our backyard but I don't think Tamworth is gonna be it. It's a con job, nothing more.

It's not often that I agree with honclfkr, but I do agree with some of what you said. I agree that the people at the highest levels of this project must have "H.U.A.S."(head up ass syndrome) because they have been running around collecting peoples money but falling way short of delivering on promises. So, while I may have been harsh in criticizing the environmental nutjobs for trying to get the project thrown out, the people in charge of organizing and implementing the project left themselves open for this sort of shit by not covering their asses, up front.

I have to agree with Senor Honcklefucker.

I've mentioned this before, but I met a guy name Dan Croteau (who apparently holds some sort of ownership in that project) at Lime Rock last spring. According to him, that track's main goal is to become a hangout spot for members only; he told me they planned to stop renting to outside clubs altogther as soon as they could, and reserve the place for people who paid their insane membership fees.

Haha, Dan... This is all I have to say.

Actually, no its not. The dB limit is entirely reasonable given the fact that all they will have to do is a wee bit of work on sound barriers, and keep the track far enough away from the perimeter that the sound problem goes away.

In any case, who knows if tamworth will ever be finished. Even if it ever does become just a private club, I'd rather get a membership there then at a country club (compare the prices, cheaper to be a member there then at most country clubs)

EPA only requires notice of intent be filed 7 days prior to construction and that you have in posession a stormmater & erosion control plan. but there is no "approval"

NH requires permits for wetland impacts and for erosion control from NHDES and they have already obtained them .

Sorry, NH-DES permits. Take a look here: http://www.clubmotorsports.com/press...ils&newsID=355

What bullshit, they were supposed to have this thing built last august, but they're only now securing PERMITS to build the thing in december? Complete snow job.

Meanwhile what kind of burn rate do you think this company has? Seems to me like they're pretty top-heavy on the fancy self-important executive types. Weren't they in financial difficulty a year ago?

My crystal ball prediction: Corse Moto-Fucks is out of money in a year, having built NOTHING, blames everything on the town opposition (which they should have been prepared for, what track *hasn't* had opposition?), and all the poor suckers who bought "memberships" in this pyramid scam get NOTHING.

Don't forget the filing for bancruptcy so they are protected from the investors and creditors, and next year a new company popping up in another state....
