Anyone know how to work on 2-strokes?

My dirtbike, 2001 Kawasaki kdx 200
will not kick over, I have cleaned the carb, gas, tranny oil, new spark plugs checked the boot to see if it has a spark. But thats just about it. I dont have the time to fiddle with it some I'm looking for someone that knows what they are doing. So If you know or you have a friend that knows a bit about the KDX please pass the info along.

Thanks

If there is excessive oil build up a spark plug can be wasted almost immediately.

ISt with spark plug out see if its wet with gas or oil.

If it is leave it out for a while and get lost to let the bike dry out.

Make sure you have fresh gas and its in the carb bowl.

Try a shot of starting fluid no choke ignition on throttle wide open. Kick It hard. If you don't get a least a little pop from the ether then I would assume you have a frozen ring or siezed so very low compression.

Also you need some fast kicking speed to make sure you get a healthy spark

Last but not least is get towed by a car with it in 2nd gear to bump start it.

good luck

Provided it ran when you put it away. Check for spark at the plug. Make sure the kill switch isn't flipped off.

Put fresh gas and oil in it. Turn the gas on. Lean the bike way over until gass is pissing out of the over flows in the carb. Turn on the choke, and kick it over good and solid no throttle. Should fire right up. If you flood it, turn the gas off and kick it over a bunch of times with the throttle wide open. Good Luck...

When you flood a 2-stroke, fuel ends up getting pushed into the expansion chamber. If you get enough fuel in there, it's not going to start. Get a friend and stand the bike on it's rear wheel til it's nearly upside down. A lot of Fuel may dump out the tailpipe, so be ready for that.

Should start right up after that...

If not, I'll need more info.

Definetly no battery on a KDX. Grab a new plug put it in the boot and hold it against the cylinder head to make sure you are getting spark. Drain the gas out of it, if there is water in the gas it sinks to the bottom and it will never start. Make sure th petcock is working right, if it seems like it is flooded, hold the gas wide open and keep kicking it till it starts. My KX 500 would occasionally be a pain in the ass to start. Snapped two kick starters on that bitch, way too much compression...

If you snapped two starters it was probably fluid locked. this is dangerous for motor parts as well...

Check your compresion.
Try to find out what your compresion should be for the bike and compare. If you catch it soon enough a new piston and ring s with a few gaskets is pretty cheap and a good idea after a while anyway.

Another thing to check would be the reeds. They are in the boot that goes from the back of the carb to the cylinder. They come out in a triangle block and should be flush with the surface they are mounted to. If not they need replacing as well, the OEM reeds are a good choice for replacements unless you have modified your bike with exhaust etc..

From all my years of working on my 2 cycle snow machines, you never ever use " Starting Fluid" to get a 2 cycle going.
If the bike has been sitting for more than 3 months even with fuel stabilizer in it, you should
A: Drain all gas
B: Remove carburator and clean ( including pilot and main jets)
C: Replace Carb and check for fuel flow by opening the bottom bowl screw on carb.
D : Fill with 87 octane
After that if you have good fuel, clean carbs and a spark and it won't kick over , take it to a big steep hill and see what Pop starting does.
Also if engine storage oil was not used you may have some internal corrosion problems that may need to be worked out.
After that valves are your next step.
