AMA back to NHIS

I doubt it but
Quote:
Loudon to return to the AMA schedule? The AMA's Ron Barrick, champion Mat Mladin and Kevin Schwantz will be traveling to New Hampshire International Speedway this weekend to discuss with the "Loudon" owners what it would take to get Superbikes back there. Loudon remains the oldest AMA-sanctioned event but has been off the schedule for years after a plethora of rider complaints about safety at the bowl-type facility.

Mladin is actually going to do some laps on my uber-powerful racebike to truely evaluate the situation.

I hope they come back, but there are SERIOUS safety issues for those guys. Watching Wood and Greenwood go barreling into turn 3 (duing 1:13 laptimes) is scary enough, I think Mladin or Gobert have done a 1:09...

I hope the owners decide to do it thou. Any real changes made to improve safety is obviously going to be a huge benefit to all of us locals that frequent the track.

Im surprised Mladin is even going to consider it. Must be the dropping of other tracks from the tour.

There is probably a bettter chance of this happening. They will never go back to NHIS without more run off area.

Without a doubt! Hey there running vintage races in Downtown Laconia this weekend, maybe the AMA can run there as well!

AMA back to NHIS

I know last year there was talk of this at almost every riders meeting before the races. That was also one of the excuses to run the tight 10 configuration last year, for safety reasons?

I remember Jerry Wood saying to everyone that the track would do whatever it takes to get the AMA nationals back there. I guess this will tell how much truth was in his statement.

I would love to see the big boys back up in New Hampshire, but NHIS is never gonna happen in its current configuration.

Turns 2A, 3 and 10 come right to mind.

These guys will knock 3 seconds off the current LRRS records. Watching Eric Wood go through the course is a testimony of his immense skill and courage - now add Mladin and his Yosh prepped GSXR1000.

Is Matt gonna ride slow and safe, or go for the win?

And when it rains there it is treacherous.

Jerry says they will do whatever it takes? I don't think the owners want to spend that kind of cash on bike racing, when karts, SCCA, and LRRS use the place as it is right now and have no problem paying the fees.

NHIS is the ONLY game in New England and they know it.

Where's the motivation to make it safe?

Because they do it 20 seconds a lap faster. It is NOT a safe track homey, but at a 1:30 trackday pace and an hour and a half from my house, I guess it will do.

oh i'm sure they'd do it more like 30-35 seconds faster than me... i'm just hopin some of em see my post & take it as a challenge

this past thursday i was talking to Deb, the racer w/ the super short blond hair & glasses w/ white/blue vanson leathers... she came up w/ a great idea for a new layout and got a ton of support from other riders, but it'd cost some serious money to do it....

basically it's almost 90% similar to how it is now, but basically STRETCH the distance between turn 7 and turn 9 and turn 10 would be pushed down just as far so there's alot more runoff in 3. You'd enter back onto the infield about 150-200 feet further down than the current turn 10.

here... you'd kinda go from this:

That's a interesting concept.

Turns 2, 6 and 12 would still need 'some help' probably. I mention 6 becaues the runoff seems short compared to other tracks.

How about some of those gutter bumper things that you see in bowling alleys for little kids? If the racers try to get off track, they'll just get bounced back towards tjhe line?

We have granite boulders, wood chucks, trees and cement walls too close to the course.

They would need to bulldoze everything, the AMA riders want 200' of runout, that means turns 1a,2,3,4,5,6,7,8, & 10 need to be wiped out.

The back yard parking lots need to be utilized for track space.

Loudon is a great learning facility, learn fast or die.

running the tight ten sucked ass.

just like an engineer point the blame elsewhere for your own mistakes

I actually didn't think you'd catch the part about who's idea it was. Plus it was funnier the way I wrote it (at least to me)

AMA back to NHIS

I know Jerry Wood had sent out a letter to plead for the ama to come back to loudon, now i have the utmost respect for Jerry Wood, I raced with him in the 80's and took the penguin school advanced class with Dale Quarterly and Johnny Bettencourt as instructors...but this new track is horrible for an AMA race with super fast machines...now add water to the mix and its downright deadly.....I think i was the first rider ambulanced out of the new track in a practice for the first nationals that was held there....

I blame Bahr for all of this, all he wanted was a nascar oval and he got his wish..I also remember rumers that they werent even going to put in a road course at the time...the old course had its problems as well, and a few deaths, but theonly one i can remember happening not due to riders getting hit by someone was (cant think of his name) but he hit the Pit wall out of turn 9...

Bahr had a chance to make a great road course, he had the room to make a course that could have brought in indy cars etc...but the track was made like an afterthought, turns 9-11 in the infield are a joke, as is the trees with mattresses wraped around them up the hill are...(hopefully the matresses are gone now) ...I know he could have made a great road course but didnt care, and i still dont think he cares if ama comes back or not...he has his nascar races and thats all he ever wanted...just my 2 cents on that....

wasnt matt mladin hurt real bad there in the rain? I dont blame the pro's for not wanting to ride there , though how they went about it and the locals and privateers that did race that weekend was a screwed up situation that could have been handled differently but thats not for me to comment on since i wasnt involved then.....
