Mike,

First of all, good luck finding one. KTM has only sent about 250 to the USA.

It only comes with the street wheels and tires and it is street legal with mirrors, directionals, headlight, horn and brake lights.

$7299...Yeah, it is a stretch, but I think the fun factor will be worth it.

But how much total would it be to get a new one and make it street legal?

And i'm talkin about the 525. Big guy like me can't have no 450!
The 450's are just about the same power wise as the 525, 525 is just a bit more torquey, the Yamaha and Honda 450's have a bit more powah than the KTM 525 Keep in mind, these bikes only weigh 225-235 lbs and put out about 60hp, you do the math to see what the power to weight ratio is...

If you can wait until fall, i'm sure KTM will run a special again as they do every year to move all their left over parts. They have the best bang for the buck moto package by far. I bought a 04 450sx (SMC) that came as a supermoto, 17" wheels, tires, Big front rotor, big caliper and a moto front fender. The best part is with this package is it comes with the complete dirtwheels, all the stock braking components and the stock MX front fender (KTM ships these direct to you). I paid $5,800 for the bike brandy new
It costs about another $1k to get it road legal, Lights, lighting coil, mirrors, horn, DOT rubbers.. etc and a few hours of your time to put it all together. KTM also has a clean MSO with no "dirty" words on it from the factory for easy registering

A full on MX bike is the only "real" tard IMO. If you go and buy a new MX bike (big 4-stroke) with plans on making it a street legal motard, plan on spending at least $2,500 on top of what you paid for the bike to get it on the road and do things the rite way

I mentioned the DRZ450SM way back when but then was assaulted with "It's a heavy slow dog!" comments.

I want light. If the 450 makes as much as the 525 in the power range (or close) with similar weight, then so be it.

There are no "official" HP numbers on the 625 SMC that I'm getting, but if the 525 makes 60hp, I'd guess the 625 makes a little bit more. Granted the 625 weighs in at about 325lbs, but still packs a helluva punch.

I'm sure it makes good power and is probably about equal to the 450/525 MX bikes, keep in mind anything street legal from the factory goes through some EPA power robbing crap. MX bikes have no EPA regulations and put out some good power numbers.

Your KTM MSO will have the HP rating on it, at least mine did

I think there is almost 10 lbs difference with the KTM 450 to the 525, obviously the 450 is lighter. KTM 450sx is 232lbs, the Yamaha YZ 450 is 222 lbs.

The reason people knock the DRZ factory supermoto is it's a detuned engine (epa thing again) and added a bunch of weight to it to make it street legal, with the KTM 625 it'll make ennough power to still keep most happy, a 450 will feel sluggish

iv'e got both.

the 625 weighs more and makes about the same hp as the 520.

so the net would be less hp to lb.

but the 625 has more torque.

my duke came with a piece of shit cv carb, i installed a flat slide before i even rode the bike.
