Dual purpose dirt & track bike?

I have a friend who rides dirt and raced LRRS a few years back.

He has a KTM 200 that he does hare scrambles on, and that is his only bike. I keep asking him why he couldn't turn it into a dual purpose track/dirt bike, so he could do track days.

He tells me that the small 2-stroke motor would be too much work to keep in the powerband to make it worth it, plus thousands in wheels, suspension, gearing, etc.

I thought about it, and if people run 50 & 125 2-stroke track bikes, and people run motards all the time, why would it be unfeasible to have a 2 stroke motard on the track?

Would it be too impractical to convert from dirt to track from a $ perspective?

I think it would be awesome to have a bike that could be ridden both dirt and track. If a 2 stroke is not feasible, what if it was a bigger 4-stroke? Maybe this makes no sense...? I don't know!

Dual purpose dirt & track bike?

i don't know about 2-stroke vs 4-stroke thing but my husband has a wr400 that he mostly uses for off road stuff. he did take it up to a trackday and i think the only things he changed were tires and gearing. not too expensive really.

maybe he could just get the wheel conversion , & some sprockets and try it out before he dumps too much into it..I would think that a 2stroke 200 could be fun, there are tons of ways to make power on the 2strokers that is all fairly inexpensive.
