Metzler sportec M1's - AZMC Tires

I've only got a hundred or so miles on them, but so far I like them! Turn-in is faster than the 207ZR's due to the narrower/more triangular profile...and traction is great so far (scrubbed to the edge in 5 miles so YES I know this in just 100 miles )

I'll probably post more on these tires once I get more miles on them.

On a similar note I had Robert from http://www.azmctires.com install these for me, and he was great! If you need the convenience of having the shop come to YOU, I highly recommend AZMC Tires!

I'm definately getting a static balancer soon so I can do all this myself. I can do it all, except the balancing now.

Coming soon: a review of AZMC Tires in Dealers/Vendors!

Ok I just put in 70 or so HARD miles on them (well as hard as traffic would allow). They have the whole 'weave' thing going on at high speeds...but that might be my geometry (front dropped, rear raised, etc...but that worked PERFECT with the 207ZR's). Seem to take a bit longer to warm up and 'feel right'...but all in all I'm fairly happy with them. I'll run them through the wringer over the next few thousand miles and see how I feel about them later.

Total cost, $378. Yep I could have done it a tad cheaper (a lot cheaper since I have a friend in a Service. Dept. that only charges me $54 for a tire swap - both wheels), but to have him come to me with the shop was well worth the money!

Agreed. He did my tire change a while ago, and I loved the service. He came out to my job, did it, and called me when he was done. I would've done a nasty smoky burnout, but the powers that be wouldn't like that much. Oh, and he also lubed and adjusted my chain, and greased some other things as well.

Oh, and about the M1's... you'll love them. Another guy I know with a TLS, and those things turn to bubble gum when cooked.

Josh, the M1's are way tall on the rear, much more so than the D207s, and that might explain your weave. I remember a guy on SBN complaining about the exact same thing once he mounted up M1s.

Ken Mitchell had to order a new longer chain to put on his Sprint RS once he put on the M1s. Without the chain, the rear tire was rubbing on the front of the swingarm!

BTW, Bridgestone BT010s.... ROCK!

Any of you that have experience, or know of people that have had experience with these tires...can you tell me if they hum around 45mph? I've checked my bike over and over and everything looks fine...but it hums at about 45mph, like hums as in tire noise. Very strange. I like 'em tho...still. Nice n' sticky!

Silly wanker! That's you humming "Wake me up before you go-go" in your helmet.

Have you double checked the alignment on the rear? How about tire clearance through the front fender? You've got two seriously strange tire related phenomenon going on since you had the M1s mounted up and it just doesn't sound right.

I've put it on the stands, and the front isn't the issue, thought it sounds like it's coming from the front. I'll take the rear off after work today and take a look and see what's up. Very strange indeed. The weave is definately the geometry change...it just tends to drift around a bit now....but the 208gp's did that too.

I threw Pirelli Super Coursa's(same carcas and compound as M1's supposedly) on my R6 just after fathers day and now have about 700 miles on them with minimal wear. I love these tires so much more than my 207's. They scrubed in real nice, they're not as harsh on the bumps, they warm up fast, and real confidence builders.

as for the static balancer, most tire builders recommend a dynamic balance on wheels over 4 inches in width.

I'm not sure exactly about the static/dynamic balancer deal...the one I got is the same type as Robert from AZMC Tires uses.

My tires were balanced with a static balancer by a local Triumph Daytona rider. They're fine. Here's some cheap tire changing equipment:

That's a seriously nice piece of equipment!

Here's a good reference page for changing your own tires:

This stuff makes me all moist and happy (wish I could buy it direct):

These are nice looking, too:

Yep, I saw what the AZMC Tires guy had...and this is the same type. I've got the changing down solid...I can change a tire in 15 min. from wheel off to wheel on. It's always been the balancing issue that keeps me from doing my own...since I've got all the tools.

Once I get that balancer...I'll be ready to rock!

Hahaha, I should have it within two weeks.

I've already got rim savers, bead breaker, irons, and adhesive-type weights. $10/wheel?

Beer is always welcome!

Yeah I don't see why I couldn't do it for $10/wheel...the only catch is you gotta bring me the wheels, not on the bike. I find taking the wheels off and putting them back on to be more of a pain than changing the tires.

I'm going to figure out a setup for a workbench at my house, where I can set up my shit and have a nice spot to work. I've always just done it on the ground next to the bike, but it'd be nice to do it on a benchtop.

I'll keep youz posted on this...once I get my stuff setup and get that balancer I'll be golden.

BTW, there's gonna come times when I have to say no to people that want their new tires put on. I don't have THAT much free time.
