studded vs nonstudded glovesstudded gloves have sliders on the palms... some are metal, some are plastic. i went down a few months ago (shit, has it been that long?!) and the plastic studs on my gloves did wonders. i slid a *long* way, but didn't get a scratch on me. and my hands were definitely the first parts of me to touch pavement. not something i wanna do again, but if i had to, i'd choose all the same gear. -t |

studded vs nonstudded glovesWhen I was a 17 year old squid I chased my Honda in a corner head first without gloves, let me tell ya since then I allways wear gloves. My hands stayed intact but were really sore. Studded or non? a glove should be comfortable first, protect second. if the're not comfy you won't wear them religously so try on quite a few different brands. I've read some of your other threads about gear and can see price is an issue, but you've got the summer to shop for gear so try on as much stuff as you can find to get a grasp of what your dollar buys. |

studded vs nonstudded glovesWhen I crashed a few years back, I had on gloves with the metal studs on the palms. They were terrible! ![]() |

studded vs nonstudded glovesOuch! My studded Held gloves have a layer of Nomex behind the rivets to keep the heat out. I know it's there because I can see it through the holes left by the five rivets that tore out in a lowside a couple years ago One other claimed advantage of studded gloves is that because the palms slid rather than grab, they pass less shock back up your arm (less chance of a wrist break etc.). |

studded vs nonstudded glovesNever had a problem with non-studded gloves. They're cheaper, and for typical street use they'll fit the bill just fine (IMO). I had a violent crash two years ago that involved relatively high speeds, a car, some pavement, some trees, and some gravel, and I was wearing a pair of el cheapo Olympia gloves. With the exception of a small tear on wunna the fingers, I'd say they held up exceptionally well... |
