Fosters Atricle

106db
45°
20"
2900rpm for thumpers & twins
3500rpm for triples & up

shouldn't be much of a problem for most sportbikes

Sounds like they're targetting cruisers....

But 106db is FUCKING LOUD.

Holy cow. I think I read NHIS has a lower limit than that! (99db?)

not that NHIS enforces that either.... There was some fucking Buell there this past weekend. It actually hurt when he went by turn 2 getting on it for turn 3.

20 FUCKING INCHES?????
WTF! Might as well stuff the fucking meter up the exhaust pipe!
What a bunch of IDIOTS!
Although they are allowing 106db (hearing loss starts at 90db)
What weighting do they use?

Wonder who the Rocket scientist was, that set these parameters up....

BTW most are measured at 25 feet. and the boats we run are tested at 50 feet. They have to be at 92 db.

WSB I think, are at 100 or 102 db

Oh well, I guess I'm gonna have to take a ride to Hampton Beach!

20 inches has got to be a misprint. When penning such ordinances and/or laws, they have to compare 'em to what Jon Q Citizen would encounter. And I have yet to see my exhaust pipe get within 20" of a pedestrian's ear...

But it seemed to me that they're more concerned with straight pipes that the 'you know who' crowd loves running...

I fear the pecidence that is set. The "expert whitness" does not need equipment. The judge sees the cop everyday and probably has an established relationship. You WILL lose.

Someone has to cost the town big bucks. When the residents see the city taxes go up just to cover a law suit, the law will change instantly!!!

Live in a town taking this action? Then complain about every exhaust noise over the prescribed limit. EVERYTME one of your neighbors mows the lawn, everytime the city uses a generator for street construction, eveytime you hear a chainsaw, jack hammer, or hear a large municipal dump truck or bakhoe!

Live near a firestation or police station? Complain everytime you hear the sirens! It's a safety issue with the sirens? NO SHIT!!!

here's the deal in Massachusetts, but they don't say how they measure it. this douche-bag mechanic around the corner from where I work tried to get me on "loud pipes" with my old bike. He stood about 10 feet behind my bike and had me take it half way to the red-line. it passed.

Mass. Reg.

Generally speaking, you must have a baffle in the exhaust system of a motorcycle. Straight pipes are illegal, and your motorcycle must meet certain noise requirements. For motorcycles manufactured before 1986, 102 decibels is the legal limit, 99 decibels for motorcycles manufactured after 1986.

here's a light at the end of the tunnel...

May I use neon undercarriage lights?

No, Neon (fluorescent) lights are illegal and are not approved for use in Massachusetts.

Yeah that shit in Salem Mass is getting pretty bad..
I ride to a favorite hang out spot in salem, which a lot of bikers go to, and they are getting pulled over left and right for loud pipes.

I have no problem, but some of these Harley, and cruiser guys, really put the steam to their bikes when leaving, and thus creates this kind of situation.

All said... don't run thru Salem Mass with loud pipes!
It'll cost you!
