Land Speed Record Attempt....

My buddy is making a Land Speed Record attempt at Bonneville this week. He's shooting for the 125cc, Partially Streamlined category. Bike is powered by a new Honda RS125 motor. Frame/chassis, including the Center Hub Steering unit, he built himself. I posted one pic, if anyone's interested, I can post more... This pic is without the carbon fiber streamliner bodywork attached.

I'll pass along all the good vibes !!

Current record is 146.x MPH, so he's got to make to consecutive runs within 60 minutes of each other that are better then the previous record by 2% when averaged.

I know, that a lot of math for me this early too....

I'll post up some pics !!

Update from the Salt....

Just got word from Scott. He was in line waiting to make a second run at the record. Yesterdays attempt fell short by 8mph, but they had the jetting way off on the bike. They did not realize how much the high altitude would affect the jetting. They made a trip out to Salk Lake city because even the leanest jetting they had (125) was too fat. They are going to run a 90 !! main jet today and see if that give them the needed boost.

From all reports the chassis is handling like a dream, no wobbles or lurching. Bike ran a nice true line down the black paint.

Land Speed Record Attempt....

Well, the guy who was originally slated to make the run was 125pds. He was hurt really bad in a crash at LRRS last year, broken pelvis, broken femur, two broken arms. Had some complication's that kept him from being able to do it. So, with the date approaching Scott, the guy who designed the bike, decided he'd make the run. Scott's a seasoned flattrack and ice racer, but tipped the scales at 145pds. So he actually dropped 10 in preparation. He was already a skinny ass guy (He's 6'1"), so I don't know how the hell he managed to drop 10 more, but he did the skinny ass bitch... !!

holy crap thats a tiny jet. I didnt think they made such a thing. But I guess when you're fabricating an entire bike like that, why not have somebody machine a jet too! I say use some sort of ram-air type of thing, so long as you dont break up the airflow too much to create drag.. but I'm no engineer, so I'll shaddap now. Tell him good luck! I've got an RS125, and honestly I'd never imagine somebody going for a speed record on one. What is the record, 150mph? (I think a stocker will do like 130 down hill, with the wind)

Very cool! a 90 main is LEEEEAN. I guess the elevation makes it a bit toughre to hit high speeds out there. A friend of mine went out to watch this year. I'll have to ask him if he checked out the 125 rig.
