Help a friend out

Hey guys, a friend of mine is having issues with his bike revving past about 1/4 throttle. He posted on kawiforums but no replies. Hes tearing his hair out, anyone have an idea?

"Hello all,
I am looking for some help with a bike I am putting together that has me chasing myself in circles trying to figure out. It is a 91 ZX6c that was a salvage and I have put together from a few parts bikes.

The problem is that the bike will run and even idle fine but will not pull if given more than about 1/4 throttle. even just free reving it it wont go past about 6k rpm. I have tried two sets of carbs, both of questionable condition, but both with the stock 105 main and 35 pilot jets. I have torn down both sets of carbs multiple times now and they are clean (as best I can see). There is good spark from both the coils and the plugs are brand new, gapped to the factory .028 inch spec.

I really don't know if this is the proper place to post this question, but I figured that there may be a simple solution to this problem that I am overlooking that is specific to this generation of bike.

Thanks,
Owen"

thanks for lookin guys,
Alex

It could be a few things (ignition, fuel delivery, or mechanical). Make sure the fuel is good, filters are clean, carbs are clean, getting the right amount of fuel flow, and you have no vacuum leaks. Make sure the ignition timing is within spec and firing on all the cylinders. Do a compression check and leakdown check. Check to make sure the cams are lined up correctly. A great trouble shoot for hard part problems is to pressurize the cylinders and see where the air is leaking out. Good luck...
