Is this a deal?

I have a garage that I keep my bikes in. It is unheated and to get power I run an extension cord from my house. Needless to say the amenities are lacking.

I have a chance to rent some space at a shop downtown. (about 2 miles away) It is heated, well lit and has plenty of power plugs, as a bonus it has a sandblaster ROOM that I can use.

There will be 2 other guys using the shop working on bikes as well.
All this for $100 a month plus share utilities (like $20).

Do you guys think this is worth it?

100 bucks a month effffffffffffffffffffffffff that.

Take the hundo a month and dig a trench from said garage to house and run some burial electric cable, hook it up to the panel, go buy a mushroom heater at Home Depot or where ever, and stay right at home.

Just my pennies.

Good thought and I have thought of that.. my garage is up on posts, the floor is 2x6 planks with cracks that I keep dropping lil parts through.

It is a small one car garage and I have 4 bikes in there plus my tablesaw, the lawn mower, my wifes garden crap... You get the picture?

I may be able to move some stuff into my cellar... and use that money to do some minor upgrades... Although that sandblasting booth is a bonus...
And the other guys that would be there check out, my wife rents to one of them and the other guy is a Ducati guy I know from WAY back.

I dunno about you guys, but the thought of storing my bike far away from me, makes me paranoid.

I'm the kind of guy where I like to physically see my bike once a day just to make sure she's ok.

What you need is a 9 car garage. Then you could store all kinds of things in it, maybe setup a nice machine shop, and even rent out some space to others. I just wish my dad wasn't such a huge pack rat 'cause I'd have done that already. He's got about 6 of everything but I can never find the right tool when I need it.

Update

Thanks to all your input.

FYI, I have decided to take the money I would spend renting the space and just put it into insulating my garage.

I cleared out a bunch of my wifes crap and I bought a couple Kerosene radiant heaters and I am going to get one of those "Reddy" torpedo heaters. Plus we are going to have the garage wired so I can get some better lighting in there.

Hopefully it will be insulated well enough so that I won't have to worry to much about condensation.

Going to Home Depot tomorrow. I will have to take some before and after pics.

Now all I need is a little mini fridge... Wish me luck!

What did I get myself into. I can hear those words right now.

I'll make sure I'll work on the carbs in front of the heaters for extra warmth.

To keep the bits from falling thru the floor drop some 1/4" 1/2" plywood. 4 should do the trick.

If you saw how well Ventilated my Garage is you wouldn't be worried about Carbon Monoxide.

I see your point but it will still be rather well ventilated... The floor is planks and the Garage is on Posts.

I doubt I am going to get it sealed really well, I am just tryig to do the best I can.

As long as you have complete cobustion you don't have to worry about CO.

Any suggestions on other ways to heat?

But that would mean I would also have to get a gasline plumbed in.

My "Garage" is more of an old shack. It could be original to the house (1920). Until I upgrade it I am just going to go with something "portable" I will crack a window and have a fan blowing if it makes you feel better. I'll even plug in a CO detector.

Thanks for the help / Advice.
