Opinions on 2003 SV1000S?

I've been looking for a good all-around bike for street riding and was looking at SV650S. I rode one for a very short bit and liked it (loved the motor...first twin I've ridden). Nimble, but suspension felt very soft (fixable tho). I've heard only excellent things about the 650. But I think I'd want more power, which is why I was looking at the liter version (rated 120hp at the crank?).

Sooo, just looking for some thoughts on the 2003 SV1000S. I've pretty much narrowed it down to that, short of finding a rediculous deal on a supersport bike (just missed out on a '05 CBR1000RR that was retarded cheap...doh!)

I've been riding for 8 years now...all on supersport bikes. Just looking for a little more comfort & streetability while still keeping a fair bit of speed and handling.

If you were looking for something like a CBR 1000RR .. The SV is nothing like this bike.. it is pretty Tame...

just bought my 03 SV1KS on memorial day weekend... ive had 2 650s before it and i love it. i need different tires... the pilot sports on there are shady the only problem is, is there isnt as much of a cult following that the 650 got so "cool" stuff for them can be hard to find and so can getting info on them....

Yeah, I know. I'm not really looking for something like a liter supersport bike (e.g. RR, R1, 10R), but I would buy one if I came across a very sweet deal. I'd *rather* have something a bit more streetable...I know the power and razor-sharp handling will be compromised...they are 2 different types of bikes.

Anything other bikes in the same class as the SV1000S that deserve a look? I've quickly looked at the Z1000 and FZ1...but the SV is really the only one I'm considering at this point.

You're right. The 10R is not a practical streetbike.

If you like twins, TL1000R is a good supersport that's real nice on the street. The Superhawk is nice on the street too. Both of those bikes can be had fairly cheaply.

I rode an SV 1000 for a short run and thought is would be a terrific street bike. I ownwd a VFR and the SV seemed to be more exciting.

If you liked the little SV I am sure you would like the big one.

Also you could then run with the big dogs... in comfort

I wrote the Z1 off due to apparent lack of wind protection. Did you think it was bad on the highway or no? PM or email me with year, miles, pix, etc...
