Leaking forks a thing of my past!

I just bought a set of forks for my RC off of a 2003 with 3500 miles. Lucky bastard I bought them off of just bought a set of Ohlins These are as good as new! Hopefully I can get these to Mr. Kates swap the internals and mount these baby's so I can ride next weekend!

I am keeping my fingers crossed for a long stretch of non-leaking forks/fork seals.....

That will only happen if you keep that front wheel down!

I will be buying a new bike for next season unless I find my new home prior? The new R1 is on the list as is a Gixxa 750 and who knows what else could make the potential 2007 model list?

No one believes me

Buffing regular chrome fork tubes.

I buffed the tubes using a regular buffing wheel and compound.

I buffed them in the direction of travel and they had much less friction in the tube or the seals. Not to mention lookin purtier

That fork did not leak a drop in 18,000 miles. Not a single wipe ring etc.

Mike's forks problem was the chrome wore through. It's a problem with the process, not friction. Buffing will not stop leaking. Leaking is caused by a seal failure, like a nick in the tube, or a grain of sand that cuts the seal. Wheelies, stoppies, tieing the front down do not cause leaking. The seals are good for several thousand psi, you'll only get a few hundred at full bottom. Mike had a step in the surface of the tube where the chromium wore off and created a gap between the tube and the seal. Buff all you want Rich, it won't fix Mikes tubes. The only tool to fix his forks is Mastercard......

Pete, when I get back I will be bringing you both sets of forks to put my 01 internals in the new 03 forks then decide if I am going to get the 01 tube cromed or replaced so I can resell them!

Give you a ring after Thanksgiving when I am back home.

Mike
