Anyone need any bike maintenance?

I just told my boss to shove his job up his ass so I need some cash work to tide me over.

If anyone has any bike work that needs doing (anything at all), let me know. I'm better and cheaper than the dealers.

Anyone need any bike maintenance?

Hey i discovered last night that i dont know shit about suspension (even though i thought i had a rough idea). all this time i thought the falco was just the way a good suspension was supposed to feel. low and behold cooter and i reset the compression (?) up front, and HOLY SHIT what a difference 6 or 7 full turns can make, its like a totally different bike, i can actually hold a line now and i even scraped my toes last night (not pegs, yet ;-).)
anyways, i dont understand what changes to make on rebounding, and i want to lower the front by a line or two on the forks and i want to soften up the rear (but i dont have the necessary spanner wrench), its a little too harsh at the moment.... so whaddaya say degs?

I am sure that either Bill or Derek will have the spanner wrench for your bike.

no kiddin'

hey that thingy by the clutch is it suppose to look bent?

the little peg where you shift up or down, next to it is a long thingy where i guess it moves the peg and the internal workings... i think i might of bent it... not sure... but it still shifts fine

hmmm... there's three parts i can think of that you're talking about:

1) the piece that you actually stomp on/lift to shift...
2) the rest of the lever going back to the footpeg.
3) the connecting rod going from the lever forward to your engine.

i'd say if it's 3, you should replace it... otherwise, i doubt it's that big a deal.

wow, you guys are awesome! as Ed and Degsy can contest, all bike parts are thingies till they are identified.

and yes, i think it's #3. it's not bent bent, but i just don't look straight. i tried stomping on the clutch and it seems to shift all fine.

but ed and degsy said i can get a reverse one 1 up, 6 down. i may just do that...

any idea on price?

hmmm.
if it's #3, i think it should probably be replaced... reversing it for 1 up, 6 down (aka GP shifting) is just a matter of flipping that rod over, and reconnecting it.

i can't find the part #/price right now, but i'll post when i find it.

Doesn't cost anything to do. All you do is put the linkage on the opposite way, which takes all of 3-1/2 minutes. But I doubt that'll myseriously give you the seven-speed gear box you mention...

If I'm going to spend 350+ on a new rear set, is there anything that don't have a rod?? It's likely that I'll drop the darn thing again... and I don't want to bend it...

I think I saw something on Kneedraggers the clutch look like a eggshell shaped component by itself with no rod...

With the rear sets, you'll have MORE linkage. But I think it's still just as easy to get the 'GP shifting' you're asking about. The 7-speed tranny though, I dunno...

Hey Degs....

What would you know about finding spark in an EX???

I've been trying to get ready to run the practice etc this weekend but have had nothing but troubles with my bike...

The 88' motor it came with seized a rod... I got a motor from a 97' and put that in... with the newer harness, ignitor etc... but I can't get any spark...

I tried the ignitor and junction box in my wifes 96 EX, it started fine... I tried coils from my friends EX (known good) nothing... we tested the pick up coil (per the manual) and it read 478ohms... which is in the correct range... although I think I may still try another pick-up.... when we ran power directly to the coil we could get spark... and the coils get power... but don't pulse when the engine is turing over...

I started to test point to point on the harness... and what I tetsted seemed fine.... The bike has no key so I had to jump the ignition connector and the starter/clutch kill... but that all seems ok...

Anyway... dunno what you would charge to help me debug... there must be something I am missing... but maybe you could drop me an email and let me know...

Thanks in advance!
Mike
