My girl friend want to go with me to a blessing of the bikes. The only problem is, she said it was an invitation from some ghetto type group of women called "Divas of something", and we'd rather go somewhere else. Is there any going on near Newport, RI? She lives in Stoughton MA and we'd like to take a nice ride down near the ocean.

I usually go to a church, bring an empty water bottle, fill it up with some holy water, and then bring it home and pour it over my bike.

my dad and i went to this one last year. we were both in our leathers carrying full faced helmets and one of the ladies at the info booth thingy asked if we road our mountain bicycles all the way there. i was actually to dumbfounded to think of any smart assed comments. plus she seemed really impressed with our peddaling ability. after that i watched the hells angels parking lot bouncers kick out a guy in one of those T-Rex three wheeled busa engined things while a trio of goldwing trikes rolled right in. retarded.

Ok so tell me this, is a "blessing of the bikes" more for cruisers/harleys?? Do many of you go to that thing? Also does this have anything to do with religion (like the christian biker groups, etc. )...that probably seems like a retarded question but in my mind, if you "bless" something it's somehow because you're being religious on something. If so, I'd rather hit the twisties and "bless" my bike this way...

from what I've seen, blessing of the bikes is mostly for the Harley/Crusier crowd.

well most "bikers" in this area ride cruisers and most cruiser riders, ride harleys so most "biker" functions around here are the crusier crowd. But a lot of sportbikes do go and the christian biker group will probably have a stand somewhere there..

as for the blessing part...basically you pay like $10 to get in and they give you a bike trincket thingy with a cross....a preacher says a prayer, then everyone walks around looking at the bikes and cheesy vendor stands. There is typically a band playing and beer being consumed as well....

when i go it is usually we do not stay long and go riding after...

It's a typical Harley gathering, bunch of "wannabe biker" dudes standing around talking about their bikes trying to rationalize why chrome is better than handling or reliability. It's like pregame for Laconia. $5 a bike to sit there, in the ghetto. Pay the $5 to park in Newport and actually get to do something. My 2 ¢.
