I could ream it on my mill (if you're sure of the dimensions) for the cost of the reamer (I don't have a 12mm reamer, but can get one for $20).

Sounds to me like the brandy new penske shock is the wrong one. I could be wrong but I would at least check that out before you drill it out.

Like I said I am probably wrong. Just sounded weird that a company like Penske would ship a shock that requires boring to be installed. Carry on.

doesn't sound like a big deal...
What does the part that needs to be machined look like (is it a through-hole, not blind, can it be removed from the shock, what's it made of, etc?)

Local Machine Shop?

cool...
Let me know if you want to bring it over... I'd have to order a reamer from McMaster, but they ship from IL, so it usually arrives next day. Not sure if you'd need it sooner.

I'm sure any machine shop could handle it. They'll likely just use a boring bar on the lathe, which would be fine, but isn't likely to give you the accuracy of a reamed hole (not likely to matter much, though, given the tolerances are probably +/- .001). They could easily pull it off. The available reamers are 31/64, .4845 and .4850 (tolerances is +.0002).

Cool... a replacement part is def. the way to go. No worries about warranty, etc.
