The only comment on gear I ever heard from a cop was positive. I was n't pulled over though, I stopped at an accident scene (minor injuries) near my house that involved someone I knew and the cop said: "I like that suit, wish more people wore them" or something like that.

Good for you. No reason to feel like you have to fit into any kind of mold or stereotypical motorcycle officer.

I ride through Ashland near Green street often so if you see me and i see you I'll waive

I'd hope that people would think that someone with full gear is someone responsible. I wear full gear always unless I'm using the bike for transportation. 98% of the time I ride my bike is for pleasure anyways. Heck just last weekend I was out riding and ended up meeting some people for some sushi. I walk in with a 2 piece leather suit, I don't care. The kids love it I think because I look like a Power Ranger. I'm not paraniod, I'd rather slide on my leather than my skin if I mistakenly hit a corner with some gravel/oil/etc... after all, these are public roads which get littered on by everything you can think of. Well, thats my take on full gear and street riding.

My wife, daughter-in-law and MIL all work(ed) in hospitals and they have
seen it all. My wife was the "bagger" keeping basket cases breathing on
a LifeFlight from St Joes to Boston General. It took quite a bit to convince
her that I was going to ride a motorcycle.

After a year of asking 3 questions:

1. Was he drunk or high?
2. Was he doing something stupid?
3. Was he wearing no gear?

At the end of a year or so, she realized that most of the people
she sees are derivatives of those three questions.

Not to say that I will never crash, already have a couple of times.
But each time, I was able to pick the bike up and ride home on it
instead of the back of a meat wagon.

It is called risk management.

Hey Mark... long time Brother...

Its funny you mention the name... I bought that suit off the rack at Vansons... it was made for a racer named Marty Simms... but he changed to a suzuki and had a different suit made before ever picking it up... it fit me perfect... and now... pretty much all my friends call me Marty I thought about removing the name but it became a nickname and stuck ya know...

I know Steve and Tim are planning to be up there at least part time this year... I should be able to make it back up here and there again as well... and yup Tim is married... Steve's still shoppin though

Stay Safe...

Mike

Hi Mike
I'm impressed. So impressed that if I happen to be in your neighborhood, and you see an old GSXR750 with TMB on NH plates, you can pull me over to say hi! No kissing though. If you see same up at NHIS, like wise, say HI.

Hey Mike... how many officers are on the bikes. Last summer I was in my truck and saw the 2 bikes coming off of Chestnut Street onto Main street. I wasn't sure if one of the LEOs was you or not.

There are only 4 of us certified to ride... but only 2 of us that ever do... if you saw us riding together all CHiPs style then I would feel safe saying it was me and my father-in-law...

if you ever get close enough behind me you'll see the number 38 on the back of my helmet... otherwise just look for the good looking cop

Cool... if I see you again, I'll be sure to tailgate you to check out your number.

If you're on patrol this weekend... cruise down my street... I'll probably be in the garage doing a little wrenching on the truck and bikes... and then trying to get out on the road on one of the bikes.

I wave to the cops on bikes whenever I see them, whether they're in Westborough or any other town. I figure hey they're bikers as well. I've gotten a couple strange looks, but most wave back. Same way I wave to all the harley guys.

I wave to the motor cop in Hudson NH all the time.

He loves taking off after a screaming I4 ...

To answer the original question - I believe actions speak louder than the gear you wear. I have been 'engaged' by the MSP 3 times while wearing the 'snowmobile' suit you see in my avtar. One was a no inspection sticker warning (he worked with my buddy), one was a pointing to the speedo and a siren blip in the Ted W. tunnel for +20, the other was a well-deserved $150 ticket served with a stern face for lane splitting.

Did my gear make a difference? Maybe with the tunnel warning, obviously not with the $150 ticket, and the other time I could have been riding in a clown suit on a Hayabusa as it was a "friends & family network" hookup.

When I try an R1 and ICON leathers I guess I'll find out more...

wanna do your own experiment?

what you will need is one honda civic with tinted windows clear tail lights a huge wing ground effects and rims driven by your choice of minority.
have said car driven around by said minority for one month, a lot of night driving will help.make sure that ALL traffic laws are followed. see how many times said car is stopped

next you will need one 7 series bmw and one white male 40 or older. have this said car and driver do the same as test subject one

i GUARANTY that this will work

yea I've been subjected to that experiment unfortunately (minus the wing and tint) and have been given "interesting reasons". thats why I love my TL, tho now I get stared down by older ppl

are worcester cops bad? I go up there from time to time, and havent been hassled, although I dont drive all over there.

I loved my '02 tl-s.....but I skeet skeet over my '04 everytime i get in it. The handling is awesome (upgraded to the aspec 18's w/ 245/40/18 tires), and the acceleration is great. With a couple minor mods (rear sway, 1" drop, performance cats) this will be to me anyways the perfect affordable luxury sedan.

no the worcester cops are fine its just the fact that i could drive around on the wrong side of the road drinking a beer and not get pulled over. but i have friends who have been pulled over for being black.

and i hear ya on the sweetness of the tl i love mine wish i could have afforded the g3 but they were selling about 5k more than my 03 with nav, and i wish i could have got a s with nav but at the auction ya take what ya get for the low price ya pay

and to stay on topic my tl makes the cops just turn the blind eye at me where as my lifted blazer would get me pulled over all the time
