The bike "scene" in Newport, RIWhat a joke... I was down there this weekend and it felt like squid central. Lots of helmetless guys with shorts and muscle shirts and loud pipes idling their way down Thames street and cracking their throttle every 5 feet. Then they'd turn around and do it again. I felt embarassed for them. Anyone else seen this circus show? |

The bike "scene" in Newport, RIYea I remember being down there last summer and all I saw was helmetless t-shirt/shorts/sandles hooligans riding around. Downtown Newport is squid central. |

The bike "scene" in Newport, RIYeah.. I really hate it when people with modified mufflers have to be whacking the throttle while standing still at stop lights. I dont care about them going deaf but they dont need to make poor pedestrians crossing the street deaf too ! |

The bike "scene" in Newport, RIYea I was there all day Sunday, rode Bellvue Ave over to Ocean Ave, then parked over on Thames so me and the girlfriend could walk around and get some lunch. I think we were the only ones there wearing full face helmets, jackets and gloves. It is quite pathetic. And I don't understand the whole "cruise in circles" thing. Do these people actually think someone might be looking at them thinking "wow, what a cool guy"? It's the same deal at Hampton Beach. I've been up a couple times, but park once I get there so we can walk around, hang out on the beach, etc... but this cruising for hours at <5mph just doesn't appeal to me, not can I understand WHY anyone would want to spend a perfectly good day just sitting in traffic burning gas. |

The bike "scene" in Newport, RIThat's what separates the "real" riders from the posers. On my way in this morning the worst part of my ride was cruising at 5mph on RT 9. Why do people like staying in 1st gear? |

The bike "scene" in Newport, RIYea Hampton beach is another squid spot. Punjistick and I took a ride up there one Friday night. It was funny watching the squids because everytime they came around the block there was a different chick on the back of the bike. Oh yea and the white trash up there is fun to watch too!! |

I guess I've never been down in Newport during the season... because I rarely see bikes up and down Thames... maybe the occassional HD, but not sportbikes. I think I'll keep going down there in the off season... less crowds and fewer idiots. |

The bike "scene" in Newport, RII live in portsmouth so I am constantly around the newport biker scene, I'm down there once or even twice a day. It is not really a biker scene so much as it is a show scene. I once witnessed like 5 guys cruise down onto Thames st. with not a single piece of motorcycle gear, and wearing collared shirts and jeans to go to the bar... maybe some have a lid strapped to the seat so they can pick up a chick or something. When I ride it's the exeter backroads up into woonsocket/warwick, or else I'm just cruising aquidneck... mainly ocean drive, which would be a great road if it weren't for all the sand and shit. I'm always geared up. Granted I've been guilty of cruising around thames and the surrounding areas with my lid on my rear seat, but thats < 15 MPH areas. RI riders really seem to be set on not wearing lids for some reason. But there are a couple of us not completely squiddly on the island. |

The bike "scene" in Newport, RIyeah its odd, I know tons of people dont wear helmets around the world, but it seems like 9 of 10 in RI dont. It just seems like its worse here |

The bike "scene" in Newport, RII'll admit that Ocean Drive and Bellvue Ave are very nice, relaxing roads to cruise on at a slow pace, just to check out the scenery, take in the nice weather, etc.... stop here and there and just chill. But once you get to the downtown area I just can't see sitting on the bike in traffic riding around... |

The bike "scene" in Newport, RIYea I don't get that either. How can you enjoy riding a motorcycle around a city or in traffic? Personally I refuse to ride in the city because it's such a pain in the ass with all the stop and go's. I'm all about the quiet country roads with no traffic. |

The bike "scene" in Newport, RIDidn't they give you that memo when you bought your bike? Its a new law that all dealers must disclose to you that sport bike are not made to handle well or go fast. They have pretty colors that attract certain wavelenths of light that make your dong grow. However, in order for the effect to work you must cruise in high traffic summer spots, wear no helmet and as little arm coverage as possible...true story! |
