Alive but bruisedHey all, I can't thank everyone enough for their immediate response to my lowside today. I'm in one piece, thanks to very-defunct textile gear, with some wicked bruises and swelling. For those that weren't there: We were coming through Plymoth, VT on Rt-100. I came around a small left-hand sweeper at about 40-45 (limit was 35) and looked at the gravel in the corner for 1/2 second, which was 1/2 seconds too long. I tried a little bit of front brake, which only straightened my bars, and at that point I hit the gravel on the shoulder. My bike continued off the road down the embankment, clipping a tree with the left fairing, spinning 180, and then slamming the rear into a large boulder. Through some bit of luck, I managed to roll to the left when the bike went right, landing mostly on my left leg, knee, and arm. The knee on my textile pants pretty much exploded, but never got down to flesh. The left arm of my jacket is rashed, and my helmet is a scratching post. The gear may be trashed, but better it than flesh. A half-dozen volunteer EMT's showed up within about 15 minutes, and took care of me until a Statie lazily showed up an hour later. After trying to goad me into a ticket ("What were you going, 50? 60?"), he gave me a "warning" for excess speed. A wrecker strapped down my bike and hauled me and it down to Chester, VT. My boss drove me back to Northampton, and now I'm being glared at by the Ms. for even wanting to ride again. Insurance should call me on Tuesday or Wednesday, but I'm assuming the bike is a total loss. It was a stupid mistake, and shows me that target fixation can happen anytime, even when you just feel like you're scoping out the corner. I'll let the pictures speak for themselves, I'm just glad to be out of it with some stiffness, bruises, and a tiny bit of rash on my stomach. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Alive but bruisedHey, it's nice to get your money's worth from those insurance companies once in a while. We got out for a bit today and found quite a bit of debris still hanging around. |

Alive but bruisedLike I said, any incident that you can walk away from is a good one. Unfortunately, this one was at the cost of a little skin and an almost brand new bike. Just glad you're ok. It could've been much worse. |

Alive but bruisedGlad your ok. You sure the hell got up quick though. All i saw was a cloud of dirt when you went down and a slight glimpse of the bike, and all of us immediately pulled over. By the time we got to you, you were already up on your feet. Don't forget to snap pics of the gear if Alex and Kham didn't already. |

Alive but bruisedGlad you were alright. I don't know why I even bother bringing my camera. None of my pics came out good. I think I need to invest in one with image stabilization. |

Alive but bruiseddude, consider yourself very luck that you did not went down where the tree lines were. take your time, lineup all the paper works, and maybe slowly get back on the saddle. I've got it video from 3 bikes down, didn' get the slowside, but caught the dust and you stood up instantly. I'll post my photos and vids later. Last edited by ku996r : 05-26-07 at 11:23 PM. |

Alive but bruisedQuote:
My helmet actually had the least damage, just a lot of scratches ![]() The left arm of the jacket held up well, but is still pretty shredded ![]() The textile pants did what they were supposed to do, kept my skin safe at the cost of the pants. I've got the knee armor down in a milk crate with a couple bits of my bike. ![]() On a related note, anyone had much experience with insurance and bike accessories/gear? I've got Commerce Insurance through AAA with full comp and collision. My bike had an OEM lower cowl kit which I stripped off at the tow yard, just in case they won't cover it. All my gear except the gloves and boots is trashed as well. Any idea how much of it might be covered? Once again, thanks for the great response, and thinking immediately of my bike after I gave the thumbs up ![]() Can't wait to see the video of my dust cloud, not much else I can do today without feeling every joint on my left side hate me. |
