hey everyone, first post here, comin over from bandofriders.net and cbr600rr.com. nice to see riders closer to where i live.


anyway, looking to buy a bike after the new year this winter. im lookin at buying a v twin. going be riding on the street and some track days next year. bikes i looked at were the buell xb12r, rc51, and an older ducati 748. are there any other v twins that have full fairings and have the pep of high reving 600s? dont really want a naked bike such as the sv.

haha dont think i can quite afford an aprillia. most of the twins i found used were around 4-6k with some moderate miles, the rc51s being most expensive around 7-8 so its kind of low on my list.

If money is no object the new Duc 1098 for pure sport bike thrills. If money is an object than the 900SS is pretty nice...on the street or the track.

yea money is an object. looking to spend around 4-6ish on something used. 900ss is a ducati?

Yep...its a Duc! If you have a chance you should head up to Loudon (NHIS) this Saturday. The DucTruck is there and they are doing Demo Rides most of the day! Point to http://www.nestreetriders.com/forum/...demo-days.html for more info...

Yep, 900SS gets my vote. Handles like a dream, easy to work on, plenty of grunt for the streets, affordable, and it always turns heads.

thanks for the help guys, ill def keep those bikes in my list. wish i could buy that 748 now but just dont wont have the money till after xmas. is there any difference in terms of maintnence from i4s to v twins? im sure ducati being an "exotic" will cost more to maintain but it cant be that much more so not too worried about that. just grew up riding dirt bikes between 2 and 4 strokes and there was a major difference between maintnence with those. just wondering if its the same idea with 4s and twins

Ducati's are fairly high maintenance. The valves are desmodromic and require frequent shimming. They offer two style motors: 2V and 4V that being 2 valves per cylinder and 4 valves per cylinder. The SS motors are 2V and are fairly easy to shim if your mechanicly inclined. The 4V's (748/749/996/998/999) are more difficult to do and are more expensive if you have to pay someone else to do it. I'm not too familiar with Jap twins, but I'm pretty sure maintenance is just like the I4's.

ahh, i have no problem doing maintnence myself, just wanted to see what im getting myself into. man those v twins sound so sweet

Yes they do! If you go with the Duc, be prepared to answer the "What's that jingling noise coming from your bike?" question all the time.

as much as i like cruisers as well as street bikes, theres no way in hell im paying 15k + for a bike that every other guy on the street has. when it comes time to to get a cruiser, im building a stripped down bobber, screw buying an HD
