Peter - will we be able to swap these through GMD - or pick up new ones? Not sure if you are a regular dealer or just special order type stuff....

Called my local deler, they said they have not heard about any recall, and probably would not be partici[pating in it. WTF.

I checked the dot # and my front matches . as for local dealers that dont know about the recall give them this # 1800-847-3435. the person I spoke to said they would conferm the recall and tell the dealer how to proceed.

I got a change date of July 5th, so that's half a month of extra usage.
I would say you could safely get away with another month before you report in. My dealership didn't have a clue. I was the first.

They have to. Product recalls comply with Consumer Law.
You tell your dealership to call Michelin.
1-800-847-3435
If they still don't. Report the dealership to the BBB, file a small claims suit and advise Michelin of the fact.

Try another dealer. I sell to almost all of them. Most have already spoken to me about it.

Quite a few dealers just don't do Michelin. They prefer Dunlop, or Pirelli or whatever. If they don't sell Michelin, I understand why they don't get involved with a recall.

We are waiting for the final details, but Michelin will replace the tire and cover any mounting / balancing costs from what we were told. It is going to be made as painless and transparent as possible for the customer.

When I know more, I'll post it.

Nope, that's a different one.

I would bet that these delaminations are due to other factors as well as the manufacturing defect. I wouldn't mind betting that the two we have seen were under or over inflated or they hit a nail or something. That combined with the manufacturing problem causes the delamination.

derek

Oh yeah, I remember. The upshot is that they still need balancing, but they come pretty close from the factory.

Tire delaminations happen all the time, but when a company recalls tires people start to post pics everywhere showing tire delaminations. I don't know whether I believe that any of them are genuinely caused by a manufacturing defect. You can bet your life that we will find out eventually what the exact real deal is. I have seen threads all over the internet now where everyone who crashed on a trackday in the last 2 months is blaming the Michelins. I don't buy it. I have over 300 hard trackday miles on my 2CT french made Michelins and not a problem.

People are jumping on the bandwagon because Michelin have done the right thing by recalling the tires because of a problem they have found. No-one has brought up the fact that you can have a total instant deflation on a modern sport motorcycle tire and still ride to a stop. Hell, you can ride on the carcass alone if the tread comes off completely. All the delaminations I have seen online so far have resulted in a controlled stop.

All I'm saying is don't get sucked in by the hype just yet.
