Michelin Recalls Tires

Hey Dave... Do you have any info on this?

http://yahoo.reuters.com/news/articl...mktNews&rpc=44

PARIS, June 15 (Reuters) - French tyre group Michelin (MICP.PA: Quote, Profile , Research) said on Friday it was recalling some 68,000 motorbike tyres after finding a possible defect in their tread due to a manufacturing fault.

The company said it would recall the Pilot Power 2CT and Pilot Power 120/70 ZR 17 front motorcycle tyres. A Michelin spokeswoman said the recall would affect tyres sold in 40 countries in north America and Europe.

Michelin added no accidents had occured as a result of the fault.

Michelin Recalls Tires

As I leave for Nova Scotia in a few days I wanted to get the info ASAP. I called Michelin USA customer service:

The info on the article is indeed accurate. They gave me the DOT numbers affected and made a point to mention it says "made in france" on the side (dont they all?):

DOT 6UCW980T
DOT 6UCW979T

If you think you are affected contact your local Michelin dealer and they will have to contact Michelin to get a replacement tire.

Michelin Recalls Tires

Some dude from another forum called and here's what he got:

========
they called me back. the tires in question are made in France.
after the dot on the tire are a series of numbers and letters . those affected are under these : 6ucw980t(xxxx)
and 6ucw979t(xxxx)
the xxxx section is a representative of a number that is not constant -production numbers (im guessing)
hope your tires are made in Spain like mine.
they would not give any other reason for recall other than what was stated earlier about tread in the article above.

good luck

I called Michelin and it turns out that this:

Michelin Pilot Power Select Recall (Fronts)
« on: Today at 01:51:54 pm » Quote

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Michelin has issued a recall on select PP fronts.

I called on the PP 2CTs. According to the Michelin USA, the affected tires have "Made in France" on the sidewall and bare either of the following DOT Nos.

6UCW980T

6UCW979T

You have to call Michelin for recall instructions. Here is Michelin's contact info:

Consumer Relations Department Tel : 1-800-847-3435
P.O. Box 19001
Greenville, SC 29602-9001

...is more accurate. My front 2CT on my race bike is one of the ones recalled...BAH

Just heard that the recall is not exclusive to 2CT tires, all pilot powers with the serial numbers listed are affected.

whoopsie...

I have a recalled front 2CT.

I just got off the phone with Mich, at least this isn't on my dime.

They just said the tread shape wasn't right. So maybe they are recalling due to concern over the tire being able to evacuate water(hydroplaning issue)? They wouldn't say anything else.

I wonder how long we have to bring in the tire for a new one... maybe a couple or a few months(after I wear it out)? I'd actually like to know the answer to how long we have.

They still seemed to be ok in the rain to me(I didn't crash). I just had a real rainy track day last week.

The recall is just C3M process French fronts. I was on the road all day yesterday and heard about it at Naults Suzuki from Adam. I thought he was just busting me, but its the real deal.

Street tires only, not race tires.

Spanish made rubber is made with the older process.

If the tire is off the bike, look at the interior casing. A French tire has a very smooth and shiny interior. A Spanish one has a snake-skin like grey interior.

I should know more when I'm back in on Monday.

fricken Frenchy!!!

Just got off the phone with Michelin.
Seems ANY Power Pilot front tire with stamp "Made in France"
is being recalled due to tread pattern irregularities.
My tire didn't have a "DOT" stamp or those serial #'s, so
just to clerify....if it says, "Made in France"...cash it in.
I wish it was the back too, so I could go out and smoke the ever living
shit out of it.
oh well.

i thought my tires didn't have the dot and serial number also, then i checked the left side. sure enough thats where it is

yeah it does suck that its only the front. why not just the rear. i know my bike like most liter bikes go threw em at a 2 to 1 ratio
