Selling a bike long distance advice

Ok so who has sold a bike long distance before? I need advice.

Got a guy VERY interested in my bike, wants to send a certified check for the whole amount to me tomorrow and work out shipping issues this week.

Is a certified check the way to go or should I get a money order?

Wat is the best way to do this so I don't get screwed? How long does it take a certified check to clear and be legit?

I am calling the bank tomorrow but figured you guys might know something.

Cash the check and put a 10 day hold on it until you know its clear.

Wait until you get the check, then call the bank who it is drawn on and give them the number and have them confirm it.

Then go to your bank and pay for an expedited clearing. Once it has cleared, wait a further 10 days before you ship the vehicle.

If he doesn't want to wait that long, have him send you a money order that you can cash or wire cash Western union.

derek

ditto degsy

it can take 3 weeks for a check to clear... so wait until you know for sure it was good.

i would call the issuing bank to confirm the funds are available too

Give me my money!!!

Doc, Verify the guy up and down.... cash the check and send him the bike, If any problems come of it, call the local police departmet where he lives and have him picked up on theft. No worries, i have sold more than 300 bikes out of state and have had only had a couple of issues. P.s. copy all paperwork and have him sign a bill of sale and fax it back to you. from your local cheater in 1A

yes

Allied movers has a truck pick up house to house, they are reliable and get the bike there undamaged. P.ssss it is expensive because of fuel charge at the moment!

Paypal always sides with the buyer. They will take the $$ back. So the bike is shipped and Paypal take the $$ back.

The Paypal fee on a motorcycle (if that's what's in question) will be unreasonably high. Paypal is not necessarily that trustworthy or safe anyway.

I sold one with Certified check. Once the check cleared and I was SURE everything was on the up and up the guy brought a truck in from upstate NY to pick up the bike.

Both of us were worried of course but everything came out fine in the end.

The buyer will be just as worried and fearful as the seller if they're intelligent.

Do money order if he'll agree - that is the same as cash!

He agreed to a money order.

I called my bank too. A Cashiers check, Bank check, Treasurer check are all the same thing. You call his bank, give them info and they tell you if the funds are available then you deposit it into your account and it takes about 3-5 business days to clear.

The Money order is like Travellers checks, Same as Cash.
