Made a mistake at Lowes Hardware

I was getting those Ramp Kits (the aluminum bits to bolt onto a long board to make a ramp) at Lowes today & asked this old dude workin there if he could point me in the right direction. He was nice enough to bring me to em, tell me how great they are, how he's got a set for his riding lawnmower, blah blah blah...

well he asked me what i needed them for & I made the mistake of telling him they were for my motorcycles...

ohhhh boy.... Long story short, the guy kept me for no less than 15 minutes talking about bikes & lecturing me on how dangerous they were. I was like "Art, I've been riding on the track for 3 years... Art, there's millions of ways to minimize risk... Art, I race at Loudon... Art, I help control ride at the track... Art... ART!".....

Didn't work... I wanted to hit myself in the head w/ a hammer but I was in the wrong isle. In the end I just gave up, smiled & let him say his peace then thanked him for the help.

Morral of the story, if you're in Lowes in Danvers/Peabody on 114, don't mention motorcycles to an old guy workin there named Art, ya might find yourself looking for a hammer.

I think everyone should go looking for him and mention it. See how many people can piss him off. Ha ha.

Or you could have told him to mind his own business.

Did you get wood while you were there? hehehe.

When people tell me riding is dangerous, I have only one response.

"WHAT?!?!?! ARE YOU SERIOUS??!?!?! NOBODY TOLD ME THAT!!! WHAT THE FUCK, ITS A CONSPIRACY, THEY'RE TRYING TO KILL ME!!!! OH...MY......GAWD!!!!!!!!! "

That usually curtails that conversation.

I ask what is not dangerous, you can die lots of ways.
And Pete all this Long story short. The guy kept you for no less than 15 minutes talking about bikes & lecturing me on how dangerous they were. I was like "Art, I've been riding on the track for 3 years... Art, there's millions of ways to minimize risk... Art, I race at Loudon... Art, I help control ride at the track... Art... ART!".....
All this may or may not save you from yourself.

Won't help you if your going to get hit by a car.

Anyway, the point I was trying to make to the guy by bringing up my experience is to let him know he's preaching to the choir, not to tell him I think I'm invincible. Obviously we know the risks & none of us are immune to them.

yea i normally just bring up the fact that driving in a car isn't exactly safe either....

then i try to convince them to wear a helmet in their car if they're that worried about it

Next you're going to say that smoking and promiscuity are also potential health hazards.

When others say that to me, I usually respond by saying that "Many times motorcycle accidents involve a car driver turning left without properly looking for a motorcycle or changing lanes without using their mirror. You don't do that, correct?"

You could also get it with a falling jet part sitting in your house. Or choke on a chicken bone.

The next time you see Art theres a good chance that he has cut off a couple of his own fingers with a table - then you can spend 15 minutes telling him what a douche he is....

OK, Art - Here's a test for you. Go into the Emergency room next weekend. Figure out how many people got hurt on motorcycles. Then look at the number of people that hurt themselves with tools they bought here...

Happened last week in Boston, a block from my building. I walked right past the aftermath on my way to grab a bite to eat.
