Terrible Experience with Plaistow Powersports, NH

So 2 weeks ago, I called Plaistow Powersports to see if I could get a deal on a leftover '06 SV650S. The saleman I talked to agreed to sell it to me for $6k flat, out the door, inclusive of all fees that would be incurred through financing and everything else (assembly, paperwork, etc). I agreed to put down a $200 deposit (the salesman told me on the phone that it was "absolutely refundable" and that they "have no desire to keep your money") so the bike and what appeared to be a decent deal would not be gone when I had the chance to go up and sign the paperwork.

I told them that I live 45min away (1.5hr round trip), and would much prefer to get everything out of the way so I could pick up the bike on Saturday and ride it home, as I work strange hours and am not around during normal business hours.

A week ago, when I asked to have them fax me a copy of the paperwork so that I could go through it and doublecheck everything to make sure that's it was correct (and potentially save myself an hour and a half round trip up to Plaistow NH from Boston MA, at first they resisted, but then they agreed to fax it.

When I received the copy, the total cost was $6444.38 excluding interest costs. I called them to investigate why these mysterious fees had appeared, they told me that it was the "standard fees" and that "all dealerships had them." First off, I live in a different state and have to do all that stuff myself. I told the sales manager that this was not the deal we had agreed on, and that I had put the $200 down as a deposit in good faith expecting that to have been the final deal, after negotiating.

A few days later, I called back to inform them that, as the deal had changed on their end, I was no longer obligated to leave them with my $200 deposit, and that their choices were a) sell me the bike for $6000 out the door (not close to the door but still inside the building), or b) refund my deposit and forget that I had ever dealt with them.

They chose hidden option c) harass me about the deal, and then refuse to return my deposit on the bike. When I spoke to the sales manager after telling him that I wanted them to return the money I had given them, he asked "where does it say the deposit is fully refundable?" to which I replied "your salesman told me that over the phone, which is the sole reason I agreed to put it down in the first place." He then asked if I had it written in writing. I told him no, I had dealt with them exclusively over the phone except for going up there to fill out finance paperwork. He replied "Ok, well your money is not fully refundable," so I informed him that I would talk to the BBB and looked forward to seeing them in small claims court.

So, in closing, the deal I had agreed on with the salesman was not actually the deal. They did an extremely poor job in trying to make it easy for me to buy the bike (as I live far away and in MA, so they can't do any of the titling/inspecting/registering). The salesman lied to me about the deposit, the sales manager jerked me around for a while, and then refused to refund my deposit when I told him the deal was no longer a deal as they had changed the terms on their end.

Additionally, they are affiliated with Greater Boston Motorsports, Cycles 128, Everett Powersports, and Billerica Motorsports -- all of which is not disclosed anywhere to consumers, I had to call each place individually and ask, after a salesman at GBM told me not to shop around because those were all his stores and they had a "no competition policy."

I will never again do anything with Plaistow Powersports. Their sales team was rude and deceptive, and their sales manager is demeaning, argumentative, and unresponsive to customer requests.

I was trying to buy a bike from them and they treated me, a potential buyer (which is what generally garners the most respect and suck-uppedness), horrendously and without respect -- I can't even imagine how their service departments treats customers.

They will never get my business and I will be telling all my friends that ride to steer clear.

And now I have to go shower and head over to MOMs South so I can buy a new bike...

Sorry to hear about that man.

Something else that you may want to mention to them is this. Explain to them that you are an active member in the biker community and will make it your sole life purpose to tell everyone you know everywhere including online forums much like this one about how horrible of an experience you had with their dealership.

After hearing about this I can tell you that anyone who reads this thread will think twice about EVER doing business with this dealership again.

Oh, and check out Nault's motorcycles in Manchester. it's a little further but they are typically aggressive with pricing.

GOOD LUCK!

Step 1 - Contest charges on your credit card.

Step 2 - Check out Troycitygarage.com, where you can buy that bike cheaper than $6k.

You should print this thread out and show it to them so they can see what happens you treat people like crap.

I won't be doing any business with them after reading your story, and I will make sure to tell people to avoid them if/when I'm asked.

I'm walking away from them also, but my situation wasn't nearly as bad. I was slowly letting them earn my parts business. I have my old gixxer and at this point in time, have no intention of buying new bike. I called them about the Michelin PP recall, as I have one of the afflicted tires. The service manager told me a swap wouldn't be a problem. When I got there, the parts manager turned me down cold because I didn't buy them there. This is after Michelin told me it wouldn't be a problem, as all of the dealers would be compensated, and it couldn't be easier because I haven't mounted the tire yet. I called Rochester Motorsports and talked to their parts manager. He was aware of the recall and to him, it wasn't a problem that I didn't buy it there. It was safety recall, and as soon as Michelin gave him all of the info he would take care of it. Well, that hasn't come to pass yet. We'll see what comes of it.

DO NOT buy anything from Troy City Garage...you think you had a bad experience...avoid them at all costs! Ronnies and Seymours aren't so bad..I got offered a job at Ronnie's recently but the commute would be a bit too far for me. I've had nothing but bad experiences with Troy City...I was going to buy my quad from there but they were almost $1000 more than Albany Honda..which is ridiculous for a foreman..

I had put my $200 on a bike at cycles, decided that it wasn't the right bike for me, and they refunded the deposit to my checking account with only small salesmen type harrasment; saying that I should still get the bike because it's an awesome bike. sorry to hear that man, we'll be ridin' together soon bro. peace

highsider is absolutely correct, dispute with cc company and/or call the Plaistow Police and file a complaint (603) 382-6816.

I bought my SV there under almost those same exact circumstances.

Walked out the door with $6060 price on the 05svs.

Something doesn't sound right ... I have always been treated fairly there.

Concord has those 6000 OTD prices on their bikes right on the floor ... no dickering.

No competition policy is Bullshit....
Spicey..get back to me....You should be able to get into a left-over 650 for under 6K.
Don't let them charge you set up fees either, Suzuki includes that on their price, plus you can get them to knock off the holdback too.

PM me with your Phone # and I will get back to you..I got some people I can talk to, and will probably get a deal better than most.

2nd negative on TROY CITY GARAGE

Hi I'm a second year racer at loudon, although out now with a broken shoulder blade and foot, I need to tell you all about my time at TCG in case anybody has the idea to buy anything from them!!!!
I bought a TTR 125 from them basically over the phone. It had some damage I was told from a forklift. As it was all set up over the phone I just had to pay and load it. It was a Christmas present for my son 2 days before ( late shopper ). So that was OK. I really didn't have to deal with them.
Over the winter I picked up anSV 650 to make a race bike out of. Put a GSXR front end on. I needed torque settings just for axle, pinch bolts, and calipers,as I was in Troy one day figured I'd stop in troy city , I was a buying customer mind you. I was shifted from parts to service to one of the owners and they were arogant uncaring assholes. Their response was buy a GSXR manual. I left calling them all aholes.
Stopped at a bar, got the phone book and called Seymours, service manager said he'd call back. He did in 5 minutes with all settings and they now have a new customer.
Cheers,
Mike #899

Never dealt with the service department of Troy City Garage but I have purchased motorcycles from them and know many others that have and none of us have ever had a problem with their sales department.

My last motorcycle from them was actually cheaper than what their website listed and was about $1600 less than the next best dealership. They were upfront with me about the different fees they charge (all of which were reasonable) and they did everything possible to make sure I was happy with their service.

Well, I just dealt with Jim at 3A Motors in North Chelmsford, MA. Nice guy, straightforward - which I value in a salesman, and I wouldn't hesitate to suggest him to anyone who's in the market. I think I got a pretty good deal (6200 absolutely OTD on a red 07 SVS, no additional finance BS fees or anything like that), so we'll see. I'm looking forward to picking it up later this week.

I'll let everyone know how it goes...
