Taking both wheels off at the same time..

Ok heres my dilema and im sure you guys have the answer. I have to have both rims straightened on saturday morning. My friend let me borrow his rear tire stand. So right now my TT600 is sitting with no rear tire, rear swingarm is on the paddock stand. I took the fairings off hoping I could find a safe place to jack up the front to take the front tire off... I dont see any place that looks safe enough with a strong enough pivot point. I dont have any over head beams or an engine hoist to hang the bike from.. anyone have a resoultion?

Thanks

-Lou

I was thinking about trying to find something to put through the front as an axle and support it on 2 jack stands.. but id need like 2 people to hold the bike up as i pull the axle out lol that might be the best bet though or find a front stand. Are they expensive? gonna go look for one.

about $100

if you only have one other guy
loosen the axle
put side stand down
grab the top triple and rear grab bar, or sub frame
rotate all the weight onto the side stand
remove axle and wheel
put axle back in then rest on jack stand

or at least thats how i would try it

I've put a jack right under the motor to hold up the front. Actually, a piece of wood, on a jack.

Just use some tie downs to the sides to keep it from rocking.

I have a front fork stand you can borrow if you can come up to the north shore. It's the kind that goes into the small holes at the bottom of the front fork legs.

I zip tie the swingarm to the stand, and use a jack under the exhust with a piece of rigid foam insulation as a pad. When the front wheel is off I use a jack stand under each fork leg. Loosen all the bolts before jacking the front end off the ground. Good Luck...

Yip. Wood & a jack or jack stands underneath the engine case does the trick

Buy a front stand that lifts from the steering stem / triple trees.

Top recommendations are usually pit bull and woodcraft.

don't forget to ask Chuck to install the rim stripes for you.

ok back on topic.

In a pinch i've placed jackstands under the forks and a jack under the engine as a backup.

Hey, I had them on right. It was the brake fluid from the broken line that ruined the rear wheel striping.

I just haven't have the patience to replace them.

I have a front stand I could let you borrow but I am not sure if the pin is the right size. I will not be around to give it to you till tomorrow morning though.

I have a standard pin and you would need a #5 pin. I am not sure if you can make it work, but maybe somebody here has some insight.

Take a piece of wood to distribute stress.. put your car jack under it and jack it up so that the wood contacts the headers.

Then when you get the front wheel off do the axle + jack stand trick.

I did this last year to go get new tires and it worked. But it made me so paranoid I went out and ordered a front stand so I never had to do it again!

If you have kids, dog, wife, etc.. who could possibly bump the bike this is very dangerous!
