music while you ride

Hey im looking for some way to listen to my ipod while riding my bike. I want to decrease wind noise, so i cnat say that i really want helmet speakers. If there are some good helmet speakers out there then definitely let me know. Anyone else hear of a good "sound system" or own one? thanks!

I just put my earbuds on and then throw my helmet on.

SkullCandy earbuds are supposed to be real good at staying in the ear.

I use some Sony "in the ear" type earphones. You insert them in your ears like ear plugs. They block a good portion of ambient sound so you don't have to crank up the sound as much. They work much better than the standard type of ear buds that just sort of rest in your ear, and stay in your ear better too. I don't know if they would work with your Ipod because of the mini-plug. I would definately look for that type of earphone. There are probably other brands out there that are of similar design, but less costly.

In addition to the Sony ear buds I have an RF remote for my IPOD - it lets me put the IPOD in the breast pocket of my jacket, and have the remote in the map pouch of my tank bag.

Just keep in mind that if you get pulled over and have headphones on, you can be fined because it is against the law.

Etymotics are the brand I have. They ran me about $125 or so. They are similar to the foam earplugs. The piece that goes in your ear is foam with a canal through the middle for sound. They not only block out noise they sound awsome!! I've heard shit in Pink Floyd I've never heard before. They were one of the best purchases I've made in a long time. I've owned them for about 4 yrs and never had a problem. here is a link

Koss makes a good headphone similar to what Triumphdog suggested. It has the foam earplug thing that you squish down and stick in your ear canal. Great at headphones or ear plugs. Downside is the stick out of my ears a it (maybe not everyone's) so they can get uncomfy on longer-than-an-hour trips.

I have the SkullCandy buds and they rock inside my HJC helmet.

I donzly use them all that often though, since I'd rather be aware of what's going on around me and music is a distraction.

I usually have ear plugs I anyway.

(plus, it's illegal to have headphones on)

ear canal phones are by far best on a bike; earpods don't seal well enough to be effective

ear speakers such as koss plugs require the user to roll foam and stick it in the ear before expanding again to isolate the wearer from external noise. they can be a problem for some people.

Etymotics provide a seal with silicone that just gets stuffed in and doesn't need to expand.

my personal favorite is sennheisers cx300. rubber plugs provide the seal, they go in easy and are small so that your earpads don't knock them loose when putting on and taking off a helmet. they are also near 50 bucks and sound quality is between the koss plugs and the high end earspeakers.

i have a 4 gig zen (creative) that holds lots and sorts all kinds of ways, also got a remote with this so the player is stashed away while i can do volume and track; if you pod you need the remote and volume control. like chuck says ^ danger! maybe you should play police sirens, that might get you to slow down (bfg)

The Etymotics do have the foam canal plugs. They just don't show them on their website with them on. I've never used the silicone ones, cause the foam work so well.
I do get some wind noise and can hear the bike just fine. They block out most noises. When I travel by plane I use them. I can't hear the planes engines, or other cabin noises. Since I don't like people this works great for me.

I think i have little ears. I have a hard time fitting some of the earbuds in my ear canal. The sony's do work very well for me. I have tried others that just don't feel right and end up falling out of my ear and in my helmet once on the road. I'm going to check out some of these other options you guys mentioned. The skullcandy looks conducive to my ear canal

how would they even know and or how is different from wearing ear plugs.

do you take your helmet off when you opt to stop and converse with them?

on the times iv'e opted to stop and interact, the least of my concerns have been what i've got stuck in my ears.

sport, dirt, super moto or sleds my current preference for listening to stuff while wearing a helmet are koss headphones.

i find it hard to hear anything through mine when over 150mph

all i can hear other than my motor is the wind from 160-180mph

on the sled i can hear everything fine, but it will only go 126mph

I use EC2 ear phones. They block out almost all noise. Sometimes when I stop and people are trying to talk to me I don't realize it...that is how much noise they block out. Also they sound great.

I've been pulled over twice with them in and the officer didn't say anything about them.

I can't comment on triple digit performance.

I have no idea why ear plugs are ok but headphones are not. Most states have a law that says you can not wear headphones while operating any motor vehicle. I know of at least one person on this forum that has received a ticket for it.

For those of you that do ride with music where do you put your MP3 player? I have a tank bag with a compartment for it and I usually put it in there, but sometimes it scares me that if I go down what's gonna happen to my ears when the headphones get ripped out. Maybe I'm just worrying too much though.
