I want matt black, it might be hot, but I like the black look. I have a black jacket with white stripes, and black/white gloves, and a yellow HJC CL-14 that I originally bought for auto-x thats too big, wrong color, shield is scratched.

Its a lot to spend on a helmet though, but the plain black is cheaper than graphics.

Should I go with it? Or is there a cheaper alternative thats just as good?

I went from HJC to Shoei and there is a huge difference in quality and construction.

With the Shoei you can actually feel the difference when the vents are open. Weight is the other differentiator........SO much lighter.

My HJC fogs pretty bad...

I think a matt black with chrome shiled will be Ill

Its gonna go on my credit card though and I HATE doing that... but helmets are also important.... I just want to make sure Im getting the right one you know?

Know anything about the TZR? Is it the same with one less vent? A black on of those is like $270....

Before you shell out the money, have you even tried one on yet? If not i HIGHLY suggest finding a local shop that has them instock. Try it on and then make the decision on wether or not you like it.

You can't go wrong with an RF-1000 so long as it fits you properly. Just bite the bullet and buy it!

I've had my RF-1000 for a few years now and haven't had any complaints.

yea helmets are definitely one of those things that fall into the "get what you pay for" theory.

I started off with a K1R (about $100) and hated it from day 1. Then I got the RF-1000 and loved it but scraped/hit it in a crash at the track. Now I've got an Arai Profile and its a dream come true (yet a lot more money)

the RF-1000 is a great helmet for the money if it fits you right.

IMO, the rf-1000 is the best bang for buck, Although I'm going to give the Aria a shot and see how they are, People don't seem to say enough about them..

It's no Shoei or Arai, but I'm hearing only good things about the Scorpion brand. They are both DOT and SNELL approved, well ventilated, comfortable, their graphics are really nice and you pay a LOT less than the other outrageously expensive brands. I have a Shoei right now, had it for 5 years of riding, and I'm about to buy another one, it's going to be a Scorpion. Of course if money is never an issue, than you can afford to buy whatever you want, expensive or not.

Take a look at the Shoei X-ELEVEN. I have this model and the ventilation system is incredible. You can feel the air moving around inside the helmet. It is very light weight, comfortable, and the visor change is quick and easy.

Miss Twisties
If youre going to get a Scorpion get the fibre-composite model
not the plastic one.

I think its the 700 series. My wife has one thats matte black
its not bad... though I like my helmets loud and bright
so I can be seen.

The Scorpion EXO-1000 is probably my next helmet. I'm hoping that by the time I'll be buying (maybe Christmas) they'll more colors. They don't have a red option.

I've been using Scorpion helmets for 2 years now. And I'm using them to race this season also. I'll address them b/c they were already brough up, but I don't have anything bad to say about the Shoei's...i wanted an X-11 bad and bought one last year, but it just didn't fit right. I also won't knock Arai...their record speaks for itself, but I feel that their chinstraps are too far back and are uncomfortable for me. So I went to Scorpion.

They fit me like a glove, they're well ventilated, fit and finish is pretty darn good, and they weigh a little less than my previous Shoei RF900. Because of the vents, they are a little loud, but I hear the same things about Suomy's and top of the line Arai's. I second the EXO 700's over the 400s. I stay away from polycarbonate and go with composite. I also hit my head with one in a race in April. I've had worse headaches coming home from work than I had at the track that day. Right now I have two and my wife has one...and I'll keep using them until proved wrong. They also have gotten some great reviews from the racing community on the WERA boards.

Take it for what you will. I don't think you can go wrong with either
