At least it didn't seem to be the case yesterday... I wasn't present for the other hearings (closed doors), but based on some very obviously disappointed peeps coming out of the magistrate's office (at least two went on to request a hearing with a judge) I'm guessing I was in the minority of people who beat the ticket. If my reads on their body language was correct, I was the only one who skated. I also noticed I was the only one in the waiting room with a folder full of documents, too... so maybe (probably) everyone else was ill-prepared.... I can't really say. What I can say is that based on the supporting documentation I brought and the fact that the trooper who issued the ticket wasn't present at my hearing I thought it was going to be a slam dunk. I felt like I had to dance quite a bit and still just barely squeaked by.
Wortown, I assume you're in Law Enforcement. Do you really see 93% walk?
I see a lot of people go. I, myself usually don't go to court for civil Motor Vehicle citations I write, so at least the magistrate where I am let's them go, granted they've missed a little bit of their work day. Hell I see more OUI cases get dropped than I can even imagine!!! I feel that people who go into court wearing a suit and tie, well prepared, have an extreme advantage from these knuckleheads that show up in jeans and a sweatshirt expecting to be let off. Who knows, but my experience has been most people get off of speeding violations. Well i'm glad to see you got off paying the citation...just be careful with those STATEY'S!!!

hey Nick, how about a small favor? i got one more ticket to take care of. a phone call to your buddy? it was just a passing on double yellow. ya know everyone does it now and then and everyone does it in VT so that has nothing to do with safety. right?

Depends on the county I believe. Not all State Police issued citations end up having you go to the Boston court.

I've fought probably 20+ tickets over the years, the magistrate/judge's job is to determine responsibility. You are there to illustrate how you were not responsible for such.

Hmmmmm I'd probably go with, I was walking my bike along the sidewalk with it running because the battery had just died, I jump started it by running down the hill with it, and didn't want to turn it off yet since I was at work and had time to let it run and charge, while I took off my motorcycle gear before heading into my WORKPLACE 20 feet away, I was not on it, not riding it. Then I'd mention, I've been working there for 5 years and have parked in this particular area hundred's of times and never had any problems.
