Kham- that depends on a lot of things...

leather: perforated or not, lined or not, and how cold are you preparing to go to?

leather keeps wind out better than most textiles, and my (vest liner) non-perf jacket is usually more than enuff down to 50 deg. still works colder than that (w/ layers underneath) but can get bulky.

my Joe Rocket Hard Drive... w/ full liner & fleece collar... has kept me warm below freezing... but I'm more confident w/ leather between me and the world if I'm riding hard.

what were you looking at..?

Im looking at leather cause I think it looks better, but you just remined me of one important thing about between you and the world. I guess I don't want to look different than everyone else in a group ride.

Brockton cycles has some sweet deals. Before you go upstairs, look near the base of the stairs and there is a clearance rack with some leathers on there as well and they were really cheap $$$$.

mawonline.com has the best prices....go to a shop try on all the jacks then buy it on line so much cheaper. saved 125.00 for a Joerocket all leather blaster.

Also check out http://www.newenough.com They sell new and used leathers...and they are GREAT people to do business with!

As for cold weather riding...I find a good leather jacket with something like a heavy fleece under it works great. The leather keeps the wind out (except at the zipper ), but isn't too warm by itself. I don't trust textile gear nearly as much as leather.

I have the Hard Drive and it is excellent in the cold weather and def do-able in the summer too. Take the fleece liner out in the summer and open the vents....as long as you don't sit in too many lights.

Can tell you haven't really noticed Rui's, Chip's, or Seven's riding gear.

Get the best you can afford and feel comfortable in. If you don't feel comfortable wearing it, your not going to wear it.

Even if you don't look weird in it we are still going to make comments (all in fun). Just ask Scuba Steve a.k.a. Chip with his Kevlar one piece, Polo boy a.k.a. Rui with his Polo socks and shoes, and so on. Hell I'm sure there's one out there for me. But I know I've got good gear and thats what you want when it comes down to it.

yea I know.. thanks

I don't have any gears besides the jackets. Tried to avoid buying full suits if I could cause I don't think I'll be racing or anything, but I probably don't want to be in tuxedo or that type of suit either.

Kham-

the jacket you had on the last ride was a fine choice... and you probably noticed we covered the whole spectrum of gear (tho none were as stylin' as Rui & Chip ).

FWIW, I'd suggest you next look into heavier gloves ('specially for the cold), and some boots. even if you don't wanna invest in full-on bike boots yet, at least something 1) leather, 2) heavy, and 3) over-the-ankle. might not steal the GQ award from Rui, but they'll offer better protection... and warmth

I have 2 jackets, a Joe Rocket Ballistic perf, and a NexGen weather proof, along with helmet and boots. I wear jeans sometimes with joggin pants underneath, that's what makes me feel comfortable. You gotta check out pics of Chip, Rui, Me and eveybody else, as far as I've seen we all wear different types of gear. Like Jim said wear what makes you comfortable and you'll actually wear your gear

ok

I have the working boots, but they're kinda hard to shift gears with and the glove I just spent $30 on it and it's still kind of chill. I guess I'll invest on new gloves and boots. I'll still go out with jeans and wind breaker underneath. Hell.. might as well get the whole suit and look like one of you even though can't ride like one.

That is exactly what I am getting this winter from Brockton Cycles.
Think I am going to get the Fieldshire stuff.
Winter is great for haggiling bike shit.

Like Mick said, 2 piece are great cause you can go for the local blast with just the helmet, jacket, gloves and boots. But if you decide to go on one of the longer group rides you'll have the full gear. I have a set of Vanson 2 piece with all the rest of the gear. Its the best investment in gear that I've made. But newenough has great deals and Brockton cycle has a good amount of gear as well.

Just make sure its something that you "want to wear" when you ride, not have to wear.

just ordered boots and gloves.

not much of a saving for overnight delivery, but damn I need it for this weekend. Pants are on sale at Brockton cycle for about %30 off, same brand and model, so I'll pick that up tonight.
