oil checkexcuse me for being dumb, but how do I check oil and antifreeze? I see oil cap on the right side, but no dipstick. Is there a dipstick somewhere else that I'm missing? I can change oil on car, but I have no idea where things are on the bike. |

oil checkthere should be a sight glass on the engine case below the fill cap. check the level when the bike is upright (not on side stand) and the engine is cold. -t |

oil checklook familiar? Should be on the clutch side, near the fill plug. (might be slightly hidden by the fairing) this guy does a whole oil change step by step on an F4 or an F4i. F4i oil change Last edited by oreo_n2 : 10-24-02 at 02:24 PM. |

another thingI got a used bike with 3K miles and no manual. What oil grade should I use? The guy giving the instruction uses 10W40. should I go with that? or 10W30? Is it the same as car or is there a separate oil for bike? I could never remember which grade is thick and which is thin. You would want a thin grade for hot summer correct? which is the case for bike. Would you consider this bike new as far as engine goes? I've always used 10w30 on my old 3000GT, but my brand new civic uses 5w30. ![]() |

10W40 is fineI would not use full synthetic just yet. I always use golden spectro synthetic blend. You can buy it from Bettencourts in Bridgewater. degsy |

oil checkCar oil is ok, as long as it is not the energy conserving type, look for the energy star, if it has it, don't use it. a lot of bikers use fleet grade 15-40. diesel engines pretty much require the same friction modifiers as bikes |

oil checkGet the owner's manual on line. I can't remember the company's name, but Honda makes it real easy to get owner's manuals. I think they're only in the $15.00 range too. Maybe Check Here Wouldn't hurt to find a shop manual too... |

oil checkRun a good quality 10w-40 oil. Some bikes do have issues with full synthetic oils, especially when new. Like Degsy says.....not Yet! If your Bike has a Diesel, then run a Diesel oil......If it doesn't, then don't run it. Castrol, & Golden Spectro along with the Honda brand if you wish is fine. You don't need anything fancy! My TLR runs very well with a semi synthetic oil. I started running that after 6k miles were on it. |

The manufacturer suggests what you should run.... Who else should know??? The full synth oil can play havoc on engine break-in , and clutches. The biggest thing if any is to CHANGE THE OIL REGULARLY. One of My Turbocharged cars had over 172,000 miles on it, and the turbo was never pulled for servicing.... I ran full synth in this car, sold it, and it's still running after 200,000 miles! I did the engine over with 4000 miles on it, so it could handle the extra power the turbo produced...I guess it was overkill huh? |
