The front about double that isn't bad so.....

The new dual compound pilot road on the rear and a power on the front

Reasonable life in the back

Cheapskate tire question

Bought Shinko 005 sets for my bike about 2500 miles ago, grips better than the dunlop 208's i had on before, held up great on their track day and still plenty if meat left on them. i for one am impressed.

I paid $152 shipped for the set.

160 in the rear and 120 up front

Dude....I'm with you! All the freeking tire comparos in the magazines...and most of 'em on the boards...talk about how great they grip in the dry and the wet. Who gives a shit about that on the street? I know I am never anywhere close to the traction limit of any of the Sport Tour tires I have tried. And no, I don't ride like a pussy. But I don't drag my knee on the road with my old ST2 or my current Multistrada. So, what I want to know, is the relative mileage these Sport Tour tires can get.

I had 72,000 miles on the ST2 and always had to replace the rear tire at 5k, +/- 500 miles. I have tried a passel of em and they're all basically the same.

I am about to spoon on a set of Conti Road Attacks which I havent tried yet. Hoping for a little better mileage.

.: Continental Road Attack | Review | Canyon Chasers Motorcycle Sport Touring :. is a pretty good review...

Also, Michelin has a new Pilot Road 2 based on the dual compound technology they are promoting on their Pilot Power 2CT. (I assume that they are not building in the defect that the 2CTs are experiencing!)

Anyway, if you come across something that stands out please post it up. I will do the same!

Dave

Pilot road 2

Well there was a english report on wet roads

but here we just stay home europeans ride in the rain much more then us...

But for what its worth he seemed to say better then other sport touring tires.

I also got a look at the profile and not as bad as the pilot power 2c it still looks to me that the softer stuff starts to far out on the side of the tire.

I am over there ala 3/8 chicken strip (rt 17 zero) but I would guess that in this case they know what they are doing.

MY real question once again was an opinion on MIXING a power up front with the road 2 in the back

Slick dimple design is great for production, drag racing, and serious sport riding. Soft compound for rapid warmup that gives slick like performance. W speed rated (168 mph), Aramid belted, DOT approved

those sound like they'd last a loooong time.
but they're cheap........

*shrug*
cost of doing business I say. tires are expensive.

The Shinko 003 Stealth is just the Yokohama 003 from the early 1990's Supersport racing.

The Road 2 should be available very soon - within weeks.

The process used to make the Pilot Power 2CT fronts has been around for many years, first used in Moto GP. It is still used for all Power Race and most Pilot Powers. We don't know if it will be used in the Road 2, but I suspect it will.

Karaya

What do YOU think of mixing Road 2 rear with sport front?

2nd question is the front road 2 softer already... closer to power type rubber ?

People have been mixing tires for a long time with good results, as long as its radial / radial.

Mixing a Road 2 rear with a standard Road or Power would not present any issues at all.

me personally - I change in pairs. Just the way i feel about it.

If you're the type of rider to burn up sporting rubber at two rears to one front, you probably don't need a stickier tire up front. If going for more durable rubber, I'd go with a matched pair -- bad things can happen if the front has more traction than the rear.

Cheapskate tire question

I agree but my thought was

when I PANIC STOP !!!

I would like all the adhesion possible

I am a slow pussy as you know so I don't think I tax the tire sides that much

Of course there is the

Flying W high side

I am not pissed about the expense of a 5 K front wear so a sport compound is fine. I would intend on getting both at the same time.

Frankly I wish the hard compound was just the center 1 1/2 then onto soft but they probably know what there doing.

I thought that's what most of the sport touring tires are now. Check out the Diablo Stradas that Black mentioned...or a new set for yourself. I use them on my ZRX and and they're fantastic. The centers are a bit firmer (touring) while the sides feel very similar to the standard Diablos (sport). They wear like iron and I promise, if you're doing your panic stop right, you'll stoppie over the front before the traction gives out (well...you should me modulating...but you know what I mean). As far as grip...I'd use them for a trackday if I get the chance to run the big bike and not think twice.

Cheapskate tire question

Rich, just a point of reference:

My ZX10 needs tires. Spied some prices online for reference. Figured I'd stop in at the cycle shop around the corner to see what they had -- if they were cool enough to have sporting rubber in stock at a fair price, I'd buy. I walked out with 120/70 & 190/50 Pilot Powers for less than $325, tx incl. Cash & Carry. I probably could've saved myself $30-40 by getting them online, bypassing the local taxes and all. These Powers will last me at least 3000 miles. At the frequency of my riding these days, that aint shit when considering cost over time. And, it helps keep a few of the people I know at the shop employed, and it helps the internet presence formerly known as "SuperDave"'s numbers up.

Cheapskate tire question

Tire Express through the big brown truck has always treated me right, and there is a shop around here that doesn't gouge me when I bring in my own tires and the wheels off the bike.

As for the Pilot Roads - I've been running them on my bike since I bought it (2002 CBR600) and have had almost no complaints. I'm also a mostly conservative rider who weighs 140 with my gear on. When pushed for a long time they do get a little squirly but still remain prdicatable. I've been getting about 5k miles out of a rear and replace them as a set (the fronts usually show about 1/2 the wear of the rear).
