I always go for the random assigned plate in the hope that people can't remember the letters/numbers as well. Not that I do anything too crazy anyhow but it can't hurt.

This is exactly why I will never have a vanity plate. At some point I might want to go around slow moving traffic on a solid yellow. Of course I've never actually done that, just sayin I might need to do it someday.
